Hi All,
I'm having problems with the front drivers side electric window, i have a freelander mk1, 2002 3 door 1.8 petrol, the cable on the electric window broke so i ordered a replacement cable kit that included the round plastic pulley with the cable grooves and 2 new plastic slides, i installed it the shortest cable at the bottom started binding and came of the small plastic guide so was knackered, i ordered a new kit, this time the same cable started binding again but this time didn't come off the plastic guide, i removed the whole lot from the door to check that the cables in the motor were ok but the shortest cable had frayed and twisted so again not useable.

I've just orderd my 3rd replacemnent kit off ebay but before i do any thing i thought i'd ask advice on installing it as i must be doing something wrong, i watched a you tube video that shows a freelanader cable replacememt, but it's slightly different to mine as it as spring tensioners on the cable that goes into the motor mine doesn't.

As anyone replaced the cable kit and did it work ok or do you have to buy a complete new system a local parts shop wants £125 but the cable kit cost £13.99, this is now my 3rd when it comes and i don't want to bugger this one up, any advice or tips very wecome......thanks

It as the small springs that go into the 2 plastic slides, but not the springs that go on the cable before it goes into electric motor but the one on youtube video does, am i missing 2 springs.

Thanks i'll have to try find the right springs from somewhere as they don't come in the kit, i've already ordered and paid for it, i looked on ebay and saw a kit that included them, do you know what size springs they are as i might be able to buy them from a car parts shop in town.

I have a 2001 freelander and have had the same problems with my windows over the years. I have bought the repair kits which do not work as well as I thought. Each time I have just taken the plunge and bought a new or repaired regulator. Good luck with the kits.

ditto.I bought 2 repair kits and neither worked.picked up a new regulator for 40 quid and all was well and working.a lot easier to fit too

I've mailed the ebay company asking to cancel my order if not shipped as it does not come with the 2 tension springs required for proper installation as i've already ruined 2 kits i've bought from them.

I've seen a new complete replacement regulator on ebay for £40 but there out of stock so will wait until they get them in, they seem to have plenty of the left ones for sale but not the right hand side.

On your new regulator did it have tension springs on the cable as it entered the motor as i can't remember seeing any on the one i removed from my landy, i've just had a good look in the door bottom to see if they'd fallen off but didn't find ought.

:behindsofa:

I have also bought one of these cable replacement kits or the rear r.h. window. Haven't had chance yet with all the wet weather to remove the regulator assembly and fit it. The seller has good feedback so I thought I would give it a shot.
I'll post my findings when I get down to doing the job....hopefully sometime next week.

I cant remember about the tension springs to be honest. I do know that they are easy to fit, no hassle, straight in and working. The brand new one was better than the recon one (quieter}. But for a third of the price who cares, it still works.

Got it working, just finished it, i bought a 3rd cable kit from a different seller this time, it came with the tension springs it cost £10.70 off ebay it's the one with yellow plastic ends.

Very tricky winding the cable on the plastic centre then pulling the cable back into position with the tension springs, it took a few goes but once on i thought if this doesn't work thats it i've done my best.

when i fitted it to the door i let the glass sit in the 2 rubber clamps then a slight tighten, this time i knew it had worked no binding or grinding smooth glide up, then i wound the window slighty down to fully tighten the glass in place.

Works perfect now no binding or grinding smooth opening and closing, make sure you get the kit with the tension springs or it will never work, my first 2 kits were not really fit for purpose as they did not come with the springs and cost more £13.99 each so i waisted 28 quid, if i'd got this kit first the repair would have only cost me a tenner.

Thanks to every one who gave me advice.

hi just ordered the same one off ebay the one with the yellow ends did it come with full instructions on how to fit? thanks
