Hi all. I've got a 1997 Freelander (very beaten up). During the really cold spell the rear driver side door jammed shut. I thought it would just come away when the thaw arrived but it hasn't. I've got the door trim off but I can't see how to pop the door open. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi

Just had this with wifes Freebie.

It seems that the child lock gets jammed if the door handle is operated from outside when car is locked - we spent ages trying to sort and a local landy specialist came up with this cure.

Climb into the back. Pull the door trim back (the body side seal near the lock). With a long piece of metal (ie - kitchen knife in my case) flick the child lock off.

This should cure your problem.

I may get the locks out tomorrow and WD40 them to death as my kids seem to thing pulling on the handle 20 times is a way in even if the car is locked.

Good luck

Worked a treat!! Thanks very much for that. My first post immediately after registering and an answer within a few minutes!! Brilliant.

crikey - and without any "burn it" or "soak it in water" comments.

we must be still asleep. :welcome: :dnfnoob:

I was waiting for some of the usual "Freelander" comments. I've been getting those since I bought it 4 years ago. there's been very little gone wrong with it and it's had a hard life. I bought it on ebay too!

Mike - my first response to a question.

Glad the response was useful.

Spent most of today messing about with my defender - the door handle on that has now stopped working from the inside!!!!!

I have similar issue. Rear passenger door does not open from internal or external door handle.

Is it really so that child lock can go on just by itself? Is locking/superlocking using child lock too?

How I can pull interior door trim back without too much destroying door trim itself?

Thanks in advance.

Could this be electrical issue? Weather has been very wet and humid. Maybe driving to dry warm garage would help too?

PS. added picture of rear door trim stud which I think should be removed to inspect CL status and open it, correct me if I am wrong?

Many thanks for this. I've had the same problem on our X plate TD4. Slim rounded knife blade to jiggle lock fully on, then off and door operation restored. Kindest JSett
