got a 52 freelander commercial 2.0 MY off a friend
3 door 2 seats with the removable hard top plastic roof
just wondering how i put that into the insurance form

when i type in the registration number it comes up as

Landrover Freelander Es Premium Td4 2002 1951cc Five Door Estate Manual Diesel
i assume this implies 5 seats and higher insurance

when i try to input manually see no way to put in commercial

am hoping as its taxed as a van that the insurance will be cheaper

TIA

Do you have the vehicle in your possession yet? If not then double check the reg. Sorry if it sounds daft but when I bought my new FL2 the dealer gave me the reg and the insurance form said it was a ford mondeo! Just 1 letter mistake by the dealer caused the problem.

If you know the reg 100% then call the insurance company instead so that you can explain things to them. There will doubtless be specialist insurance companies for commercial vehicles but if not, I recommend Churchill. Never changed from them cos of great service, british call centre and no excuses about not paying up when I had an accident. Nobody could beat their renewal quote either.

Hope this helps

thx

reg is correct have it in the drive
luckily can drive it on his insurance atm as he had it insured for anyone over 25 at about 1000 a year

im 26 6 months no claims in my own name but been getting quotes of between 700 and 800 when i go thru the different possible freelander options

was hoping it would be a fair bit lower

Firstly you have to go to a company that deals with commercial insurance

and, what makes you think removing the rear seats makes it cheaper to insure?
A "commercial van" implies higher than average mileage and carriage of goods/tools which create a greater risk of theft

Also note that VAT may well have been a requirement in the sale

my thinking was 2 seats 2 people max 5 seats 5 people... reduces cost
also thought vans were generally cheaper to insure than cars

Nothing's cheap when you are under 28

Good point Mark. Which is why I was quite surprised at the renewal quote on my 10 plate FL2 GS. Churchill wanted £495 fully comp and I am 26 with 2 years ncb. Nobody else could beat it. Land Rover wanted £1300

Nearest was Admiral at £510

Good price I got there:)

Well I'm 52 with about 25 years No Claims

and you'd be hard pushed to get under £300 these days

hi mathilda, just to say i dont think you will find much difference in the cost of insuring a commercial to a station waggon ive got both and pay £10 more for the station waggon.allthough tax is £45 per year cheaper for the commercial.is your van taxed as a lgv? tim.

honestly dont know what its taxed as

possibly should of done a little more research
but figured it would be perfect for the dogs in the back and lugging stuff around... rubbish surfboards etc

will have to get on to my mate and the insurance company to see if either can figure it out

another friend works for an insurance company and said to just go off the number plate and that it wouldnt matter which did suprise me a little

must say mark2 your spot on there im 46 with 20 years ncb and i cant get it for less than £300. 320 for td4 sw £310 for td4 commercial. bet some one out there does though. tim.

direct line insure my td4 auto commercial, as much as it pained me, they were the cheapest, have it insured for full business use, comprehensive, 5 years NCD, wife insured too, all for just under £450.

On the schedule, it just says Land Rover Freelander TD4 Van

Oh, and it's taxed as a light goods vehicle, so flat rate of £190 irrespective of engine or gearbox. Which is nice, as if I had the car version, it would be £400 plus.
