Hi all
I'm new here and have been searching the forum to try and diagnose a problem I have with my S reg 1.8i Freelander.
With the windows down in the hot weather yesterday I noticed a clicking clunking sound that appears to eminate from the front of the car whilst driving that gets quicker with speed.
The sound can be obviously heard whilst accelerating and on lift off for a short period. I think it can also be faintly heard at times when cruising but its hard to tell. One noticable thing though is that as soon as the clutch is pressed disengaging drive, the noise goes away. I've had a look around the car and couldn't see any thing obvious causing this.
I'm a bit puzzled as I thought if it was driveline related surely the noise would be present whether the clutch was in or out.
I don't know if this is related or not but very occasionaly the car will jump out of gear when first or reverse is selected.
I've searched through the forum and could see that it may be the demise of the transfer box and I'm going to check the VCD to see if its seized at the weekend, but I wanted to post as I've not seen anyone that has mentioned the sound going away as soon as you press the clutch.
Many thanks in advance, apologies the the rambling post.
Neil
