HI
i have problems with my central locking on my Freelander 2004, TD4, 5 door.
when i start the engine the central locking keep clicking clicking, it keeps clicking open , continously, its driving me crazy, even when i lock the doors using the button the locks will just open automatically and teh central locking will keep clicking open.

CAN ANYONE HELP ME? I DONT KNOW WHAT IT COULD BE :(
cheers, Gurj , Gurjk@live.co.uk

sounds like bent / worn rods on the lock assembly, makes the ecu think the door isn't fully unlocked so the ecu keeps sending a signal

On my previous Freelander (Petrol) 1995 The central locking and imobiliser (All in one on those) started playing up. Got to the point where I came out of work after a night shift and the car simply refused to start. Had to get it towed to the dealer (St*******e) They happily informed me that my ECU had had it. Charged me £666.oop and did'nt even give me the old one back. Hmmmm ???

Spent days reading about this on the internet trying to find some pictures so i knew what i was undertaking! The RAVE cd i couldn't find any instructions on how to remove it and the Haynes manual had sections for door cards but not the latch itself. I eventually decided to screw it and just try and fix it. Turns out it was as easy as i had first hoped. Anyway as i couldn't find one i put a blog post up on how to fix it.

Hope this helps some one !

I have a similar problem except on the 1st push of the button the rears doors un-lock then on the 2nd longer push the drivers door un-locks and last night the tail gate window also wound down on it own for some reason. Can you reset the sequence the doors unlock from the key ring??

sounds like the drivers door lock assembly failing.

as for the tailgate window, this is supposed to happen when you hold the unlock button down for a second or two.

Never knew that. But why would you need the rear window to unwind but not the door unlock?

As for the drivers door it also seems to depend from which direction you point the key phob since from the front it sometimes opens the door on 1st push?

How easy is it to replace door lock assembly?

Apparently so you can wander up to it with arms full of shopping, lower the window and load up without having to open the door.
I use this all the time, then just get in and as I drive away put the window up by the button inside :)

Interesting I didn't know about all the rear window. I thought it was another thing that had gone wrong with the electrics. LOL

I have just purchased my second Freelander (1.8 Freelander S 2002)

When I took possession obviously everything was unlocked. I went shopping and of course locked everything up (except for tailgate door which I locked manually) - on returning to the vehicle I discovered that the drivers door will unlock but the passenger door will not and has to be opened from inside the car......the tailgate is of course now locked and will NOT unlock at all :( no matter how much I fiddle with the key, which then of course causes the alarm to go off when I open the drivers door arrrrggghh!!!

Is this a case of removing all door panels and carrying out a full investigation or am I simply going to have to go to the local main LR dealer ??

All offers of advice gratefully received as usually

Sorry if I'm stating the obvious, but:
Have you tried disabling the Single Point Entry function?
(I'm not sure how but I think it can be done).
I assume you know that the keyhole on the tailgate is not for unlocking the tailgate?

[Edit] Apparently Single Point Entry can only be disabled by a dealer! [/Edit]

Thanks for responding Bukko. The problem is the main key does not have a fob as such ie you don't press it to lock the car it has to be inserted into the drivers door. The 2no front doors lock this way (although the passenger side then has to be unlocked from the inside!). And no being a thick female (doh!!) did not realise that the key isn't for locking/unlocking the tailgate as on my previous Freelander it all worked from the fob so never realised

disabling the Single Point Entry function can bee done with the Hawkeye under Security Menu. I had the same changed the lock and ok

my wife had the same problem of the drivers door not unlocking and at the same time she had trouble with the battery as it would not start the engine after standing for 3 days so I put a new battery on and was going to fix the door lock or at least have a look at it , no need it works fine now it seems the extra humph the battery has it is behaving its self

Well just as an update...........the tailgate 'opens' when the rest of the car is locked bahahaha, and won't open when the car is unlocked

Am really confused.com now

Please can you advise: 2001 5 door Freelander 1, the remote locking has just packed up. The batteries in both key fob handsets are good, all the doors will lock and unlock from the switch on the facia and using a key in the drivers door. It is only the handsets that are not working. Resynchronisation of the handsets has been tried - to no effect. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Maybe the remote receiver has packed up, it's located on top of the speedo binnacle, my key fob also doesn't work despite the central locking working perfectly with the key, I've tried a new fob with new programming but still nothing so next step will be to send off the receiver for testing.
