I recently bought a 2002 Freelander and today, for no apparent reason, the boot/tailgate door won't open. When you press the handle, the window drops about an inch (not as much as it used to) and you can hear a click from the handle and also the dash, but nothing happens.

The window works fine from the dash control button, but even if I open it fully the door still won't open!!

I desperately need to fix this as I am over 8 months pregnant (due next week) and this is my only car. I have only just got it back from the garage to get a new radiator and engine mount (it has spent more time in the garage than I have had it since I bought it!).

I also noticed yesterday, after leaving the car locked up outside, that the tailgate window has opened all on it's own - I don't know if this is related to the door issue.

I went through the service history and a new window motor was fitted about 6 months ago....

If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it. I just don't have the cash to take it to a garage again and have them pour over it for hours.

Have a look for water in the bottom of the boot. From memory, It is usually water ingress that causes the problem.

I'm going to move this thread to the freelander section because I think you'll get a better response there.
