Can any one help me?

I have a 2001 Freelander KV6 and under the acoustic cover in the engine there is a fuel leak. It is where the flexile hose comes from the tank and goes onto a solid pipe and then into a quick release coupling on the injector rail.

Does anyone know if this coupling can be replaced (or where to get one)

I have made a temporary repair but I am having major fuel consumption although no evidence of any leaks in this area.

Any ideas.

Newbie to Freelanders..................

thanks

have you tried looking in there at nite ........ put the lighter on full pelt that should give ya a good indication of where the fuels leaking

By major fuel consumption, what do you mean?? The KV6's like to drink there petrol, haven't worked it out yet, but I reckon ours is doing somewhere around 20 mpg, a full tank doesn't last very long though. As for the pipe, I don't know as I haven't had the plastic lid off the engine yet (why try and fix it if it ain't broke).

when i start the engine from cold there are a lot of fumes from exhaust and strong smell of petrol. Also when engine idles in neutral it sometimes revs over 2000 rpm and when in D idles around 1200 rpm??????

Is that at this time of the year or in the summer as well?? Mine does something similar, its the choke thats making the strong smell of petrol and the fast idle (normally around 1650rpm) makes the engine run faster to warm it sufficiently so the choke can come off. If the idle is that fast then the ICV is playing up. The revs drop when you put it in 'D' to prevent the auto clutch from burning out.

its only the last few weeks its been happening. Have you any idea about the quick release coupling on the fuel line? I have it held in temporarily with a cable tie - not the safest?

Don't know about the fuel line, the whole idea or quick release on a fuel line isn't the safest in my opinion, if you could post a pic of which fuel line it is, I will try and get round to taking the cover off and have a poke about and have a look for you.

Unfortunately a lovely car spoilt by fuel consumption. My son is doing an 82 mile round trip every weekday, costing a fortune, getting about 25 mpg this time of year. If you are doing short runs maybe around 18 mpg is all you can expect.
It doesn't need annual tax hikes to put people off this type of car, the price of petrol is enough.

Hi Gas Fired Disco

I have attached the photo as requested. I have circled the area where the solid steel pipe goes into the fuel manifold.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I have looked on both RAVE and Microcat, found it on rave, listed as you say, a quick release connector, but... For the life of me I cannot find it either on the net or on Microcat

Maybe somebody more familiar with Microcat could look for you (I've only just got it set up :alien: lol), Alternatively, you could visit the stealers , they should be able to find the part you after - if you show them your picture and possibly the diagram.

Here's the diagram from rave if it helps

My v6 does about 18mpg around town and local A roads at 40/50mph. 28mpg at a steady 60mph is the best I can get.

Is it a good idea to fix the leak with a second hand part from a breakers? Has yours failed due to the age of the part? Perished rubber? I appreciate the fuel rail is expensive.

I don’t think the rubber fixture/washer (if there is a washer) is available separately. The pipe to the right of the leak is WJP000110 and the rail pictured above from microcat is MJN100691L to the left of the leak. Main dealers have to disconnect this pipe when removing engines, so they will be able to advise if they reuse or replace the rubber washer, if it has one. A rover garage will also have the same part on their kv6 version cars?
