Hi folks. Hope all is well

This morning i jumped in my landie to shop . drove np . came back and went to go out again. This time no go . she was very low on fuel . and parked on a hill so i popped 5 ltrs into her and primed . still nothing . banged another 5 ltrs in and free wheeled tona flat surface. Primed and tried her again . still nothing.

Am i going wrong somewere ?
Any suggestions welcome

I was reading on here i might of fecked my fuel pump with running her low . .. I hope not !
 
I think yours has the under bonnet fuel pump - If so I should think your pump in the fuel tank has gone. If you had kept the fuel over 1/4 of a tank (and on the flat) it would still run just on the under bonnet pump
 
Get someone to turn on the ignition the pump should run for about 20 - 30 seconds which you should be able to hear. (you need to roll the back seats forward to reveal the fuel tank inspection plate)

I may be wrong bu I don't think there's a lift pump on the L Series. When you say 'primed' do you mean with the rubber hand operated pump under the bonnet next to the filter? If so, did you lossen any connections when doing it and how did you know when it was primed?

Yea i sqeezed that till it was solid . i had to open nipple on filter has it would not harden
 
I don't think 'solid' has anything to do with it. Rave says....

"Repeatedly squeeze fuel hand primer until fuel, issuing from bleed screw is free from air bubbles; tighten bleed screw."

However, this is the only reference I could find to priming fuel. This was for replacing the filter and assumes forward of the filter contained fuel. From the filter there's a lot of pipe work, once again from Rave....

"The fuel injection pump draws fuel from the tank through a rubber pipe and the fuel filter. From the fuel filter, the fuel is drawn through a fuel cooler, located behind the bonnet locking platform, to the pump."

The schematic appears to show this cooler in the leak back return rather than the pump feed - so that's a bit confusing. What ever, you then have the pipework to the injectors - I'm not sure if you can get airlocks in the pump or injectors.

Maybe someone knows the full procedure for priming the fuel system once its been 'dry'.

Are you sure it was out of fuel. The tank holds 60 litres of fuel. When ever I've taken it right down to 'empty' - I can only ever get 50 litres in maximum. So presumably 'empty' on mine is about 10 litres remaining. If you've run it dry, then on my motor the gauge would be well off the bottom of the dial!

I generally don't let it go to empty anyway. On long distance runs petrol stations are a long way apart here. At home we live in a city that's in the shadow of a volcano that 'experts' say is dormant but 5 years ago had enough tectonic activity to flatten the city with a series of 6 & 7 magnitude quakes - so a quick and lengthy getaway is always in the back of my mind!
 
Thanks for all your replyes . i had to end up calling a mechanic . he came out unclipped the air box. I turned her over . he spray a airisol can of sure start and he started first time . ... I felt so stupid. O well she is running again
