Hi all, I have had some great advice on here before with my Freelander 2, and I have a new issue that has sprung up.

The car seems to make a whining noise that gets loud enough to hear around 15 miles and hour, and continues up to top speed getting louder and slightly higher pitch. Video attached.

I’ve noticed it seems to come from some friction on the wheels turning and fills the cabin slough could be from the rear axle as it’s not an engine bay noise. Any ideas would be great.

I haven’t had the Haldex serviced yet, owned for 4 years and 30,000 miles, so perhaps the issue is for that. Also the rear right wheel handbrake doesn’t work, not sure if that is relevant.

Remove the drum disc and take a look to see if the shoes are dragging causing the whining.

The dust builds up and the expander gets rusted and will not move.

Replace or clean them off if still in decent condition.

Haldex and diff need checking after that.
