Hi folks,freelander2 2010 starting intermittent starting,just lately when press start all lights flash on dash and that's it, can go back 2 minutes later and starts fine,been to garage but no faults come up! any advice please?thanks
 
Are you allowing the system to finish booting, before allowing it to start?
Do you hear anything click under the bonnet or near the glove box?

hi mate,yes clicking nr glove box,all dash lights up as normal then when press start hazards flash and that's it! thanks
 
If the hazard lights flash when attempting to start, it's normally a sign that the BCM has entered crash mode. This is normally due to a dead or failing battery. The FL2 is extremely power hungry, so kills batteries in about 4 years, even good quality batteries fail early in them.

It's also worth checking the electrical connections to the BCM behind the fuse box, as it's not uncommon for a stray passenger's foot to dislodge one of the many connections down there.

I'm surprised the garage said there's no faults, as even a perfectly working FL2 will have dozens of codes logged.

thanks mate,he saidbattery ok,I changed it 2or 3 yrs ago,I will look into it a bit further,many thanks for your reply
 
I'm going to be replacing my battery again very soon. Its just over 3 years old, and is a larger Yuasa 110 as opposed to the pathetically small 096 they get from the factory.
The FL2 is an absolute power monster, just putting the ignition on pulls 100 Amps, which is why it's important to only allow the starter to operate after the system has booted, or loads of data corruption codes are set.

Ah so it still cranks over. It's not the key reader or it won't do anything.
So it's basically not starting, despite cranking over?
The worrying part of the problem is the hazard lights coming on, as those are normally connected with crash status being set.
I think it needs a full systems diagnosis on dedicated LR test equipment.

It still sounds like a dodgy battery to me. A failing battery causes all sorts or issues on these vehicles.
 
Have you tried jumping the starter trigger terminal from the battery to check the starter is ok? Starter contactor burning is quite common on these starters, giving intermittent starting.
 
hi,after one garage having a go,then a landy specialist who said it was the airbag control module! we decided to check all relays,looks like it was a dodgy starter relay,been ok upto now,thanks for your input
 
Airbag control module preventing it starting, now I've heard everything. Some people have no right to call themselves specialists.
Glad it's sorted.
