That all sounds good to me. Local mpg is 18mpg and motorway is 27 to 28 at a steady 60mph, in ma v6. It drinks fool like it's free. I would like to have an SD4 but only if ma hippo is no longer feasible to repair cost wise, or is deaded. It just a shame they're going to stop producing them. I think the FL2 should continue. Sales are still strong. I likes blue and red ones.
That's a good point you make there, you're dedicated to the cause to live with those figures - hats off to you
Don't get me wrong, I love my SD4 and I will pay the fuel bills - it's worth it.
It's criminal that they've stopped building them. What ever the Disco Sport may be, good or bad, it's not a direct replacement for the FL2. It's too expensive and it's too close to being yet another variation on the Evoque theme. It's certainly no use to me - too little boot space, too low a driving position and did I mention, the price?!
What's really shocked me as that since I bought my current SD4 around 6 weeks ago, I've been keeping tabs on the prices of nearly new Freelanders and (despite the fact that it's obsolete) the like for like used prices have been going up!
Not what you'd expect.I completely agree with you - the FL2 should have stayed in production alongside the more expensive DS. At the very least until there is a more practical 5 seat version, or the replacement for the Defender arrives. Or, better still, a Freelander 3!
PS: Favourite colours - Red, blue and the, sadly short lived, Kosrae Green.

Sadly the Disco sport isn't a replacement for the FL2. When the LR designer chap talks about it he confirms this by saying it's for a more demanding market. A different market to FL2 buyers. That too me means there's a gap where the FL2 was, or at least anything below the top spec FL2 models. Hence they've upped the spec so it's more on par with entry level D4/RRS spec levels.

Yes, production has finished, but it's even worse than that; I asked if I could buy a new when I couldn't find the right used one. My dealer told me that all new Freelanders had to be pre-registered by the beginning of November. If you look on Autotrader, you'll find there are no new ones, but quite a few delivery mileage ones for sale.
When the designer said that the DS was for a more "demanding market", that seems incredibly arrogant as the FL2 is, in a lot of ways, actually the better car. The FL2 has been a hugely successful car for Land Rover and abandoning a substantial part of this market seems like madness.

Kind of makes me think they will fill the gap one day. Years ago the RR moved more upmarket which created a gap which the disco filled when it was born. They both moved more up market and the Freelander filled the gap when it was born... I guess they're following the market which seems to be increasing percentage wise year on year.

Can we have some pic's of the engine bay from different sides/angles to see the layout. Also a pic of the haldex rear diff thing (showing it mounted in the subframe) like below but not as close. A pic of the prop connection to the front transfer box would be nice, as below but not as close, so we can see what the access is like at the rear of the engine.
I've tried to get some decent photos, but failed. It'll be on the lift, getting its fuel tank guard fitted, in the next couple of weeks; I'll get some proper photos for you then....

Yep, I'll try and photograph everything, including the tank guard when it's in place.
Just need to fabricate some plates to help mount it as it turns out that the very last Freelanders have had the excess captive nuts, that were standard fitment on the earlier cars, deleted
