It sounds like the starter to me, also do you have the extra earth strap fitted to your car from the battery to a bolt on the starter it's self, what size battery are you using ? a few photo's of the extra earth lead below.

Sometimes it can be the contacts in the starter, this time of year finds the weak points of any car.

Have a read through this.

I have a freelander2 HST and it did exactly the same thing after first frost. I've had two people out to look at it and they are confused about it. Have you managed to get it going yet?

Have any codes been read? That's the place to start, as the Freelander 2 is one complicated machine.

Has anyone got to the bottom of this Mystery?
My forever irritating Land Rover freelander 2 has now suffered from this today.
Symptoms:
Key goes in.. press the button with my foot on the clutch and nothing. The steering lock doesn't come off. The dash lights and mileage don't show. The headlights do come on, and the radio comes on. The auto knob can be moved to Neutral too.
But nothing on the dashboard and no starting of the engine. Same symptoms with and without foot on clutch.. except you can hear a bit of quiet wirring for a bit from the engine bay when foot is on the clutch. Perhaps the relay for the glowplugs.
Possible causes:
- First frost today (seen this mentioned before)
- Battery has just been charged on the vehicle whilst still connected (bad idea perhaps but removing it can also upset the fickle things!).

I did a long press on the start and managed to get my code reader to connect to the ECU. Got some codes including immobolizer to PCM signal error (P1259) and a few relating to criuse control..
I have seen these before when it has got in a paddy when I have put the key in and tried to start it too quickly.. so they might be from days of old..
So I did a code clear and repeated the cycle of trying to start. Still nothing. New code read.. no codes present now.

Has anyone solved this issue yet please?

James

Any help on this one would be great. It snowed a few days back and now my Freelander 2 HSE is doing the same thing.

Key fob goes in, radio works, lights work...
No lights on dashboard, nothing happens when I press the start button except for a whirling noise almost like it's waiting for something to be engaged. But nothing happens

My steering lock is stuck on and can't release it. My car is an Automatic and the brake is now solid and won't compress, I thought perhaps this could have something to do with it as if it doesn't compress then maybe the starter won't engage as 'im not pressing the brake'...

Any help would be great.

Hi all, I fixed my issues (for now), I saw this thread ( https://www.freel2.com/forum/topic5890.html? ), I went into the passenger footwell and poked my head up and pushed every connection I could find firmly into its slot just to make sure nothing had come lose, then hey presto the car started... And now start... It's fixed for now but I don't know for how long, but at least it's going. I hope this helps someone

Sounds like some damp has crept in and given it some corrosion maybe, given time pull out the said board and check the connections, plugs and sockets for green gunge ...and maybe a little arcing, not unheard of with LR product ...

My freelander has the same problem did anyone manage to find the problem and fix it
