Hi im new to this forum and looking for some help, i have a 2013 Freelander 2 Dynamic Td4 Auto iv been having a problem with loosing power/acceleration. Basically the car runs fine for the first 15/20mins but as soon as the car warms up thats when the power drops and gets reallt sluggish setting off from a stand still it really struggles but will eventually get upto speed once i get past 30mph but as you can imagine pulling out from a junction on a hill once the power has gone is near impossible especially trying to get upto the speed of traffic. I have had the car in at an independent land rover ‘specialist’ who have plugged to car in for faults but it is showing no fault codes, they then tryed to manually diagnose which they couldnt, the turbo pipes have been changed aswell, then they checked the system for blockages which there was none then they did a terra clean which didnt help eather, all of this iv had to pay for and the car is no better off. Now they want to take the turbo and send it to a specialist to check it, they want to literally take everything apart at my expense which im not happy with so have picked it up as they have had it for 4 weeks and i have over £700 down with them and the car is no better off.

Please say someone has had this problem and knows the solution i would be great for any suggestions and advice.

thanks guys

Welcome to Landyzone - help will be on the way to you no doubt.:)
Great forum to save cash , hope your problem gets solved.;)
car problem that is :D

First off, only ask 'specialist' to diagnose the problem and advise you the cost of repair.

Second, refuse to pay for anything that doesn't solve the problem, it is not in your contract with them to do so.

Hope you can sort out the cost recovery then the FL2.

Thanks for the reply and i know will be the last time i use one i have a local garage i use which have always been good with my car but could not diagnose the problem eather hence why i used the independent one thanks for the advice bud

This is a video i have if it helps anyone this is the car when it has lost power trying to pull out up hill will pick up speed after a while

Crank sensor would be my guess. These can partially fail, causing odd issues like low power and/or cutting out.

thanks for the reply is this something that would show on a diagnosis then ?
Cheer

Not always, in fact a failing CAS almost never comes up on the diagnostic for some reason.

I can't understand why there are no codes, as just starting the FL2 will normally generate some kind of code, somewhere.

Ye thats what the garage said that the freelanders are very sensitive to fault codes so it was odd why nothing was showing maybe me worth get the crank sensor replaced i looked online seems a cheap fix would be worth trying it

Ever been topped up with petrol? The symptoms you describe are similar to a gummed up fuel filter caused by misfueling.

PS. Don’t ask me how I know

Did you change the crank sensor? When they are failing, it can cause power loss when hot. They are so cheap and easy to replace, it's silly not to eliminate it.

+ on this

exactly the same symptoms happen on early hinckley triumph motorbikes and its always the crank sensor that throws a wobbly

I have changed the fuel filter on thursday and the car hasnt lost power as of yet done around 20miles with new genuine filter it had a non genuine filter in so hopefully all is well, the crank sensor arrived yesterday so will have that changed aswell for what it cost it makes sense
Thanks for the help guys
