Hi all. I’m trying to put a light-bar on my facelifted Freelander 2 – and would appreciate some advice. I’m trying to locate a 12v feed from the full beam to activate the light-bar relay ... but can’t seem to find one. The headlamp units have just a single bulb giving both the dip and full beam. I’ve put a voltmeter on the loom plug which connects to the headlamp unit, checking all the pins, first with dip beam, then with full beam. There is an array of voltages across the pins, but no difference between dip and full beam. Any ideas, anyone? Thanks.

As you have the later headlamps with a single bulb, the main beams is controlled by a solenoid activated shutter. You can use the shutter feed to supply a relay coil, which is then used to supply a light bar from a fused battery supply. I've no idea what colour wires are used for the headlamp shutter though.

Also be aware that insurance companies are now considering extra lights as a modification, and can refuse a claim based on false information in the policy schedule, so it's best to let them know you've added a light bar.

I'm still at a loss! I can't find a full beam supply that stays on with the full beam and goes off when dipped, that would trigger the light bar solenoid to go on and off at the same time.

I've just checked the wiring diagram I have. It looks like the shutter control might be on a yellow/violet wire. Unfortunately I don't have the wiring diagram for your exact year, but the earlier xenon headlamps use the dynamic level control for main beam shutter control, so maybe the later cars do too? If you have a yellow/violet wire, measure it and see what it does when main beam is put on.
