Help, I know this topic has been done before but I’m starting to feel like it’s beyond help, so I had the classic puddle in the boot which we know is the foam gasket around the tail gate stop light so I replaced the whole fitting with a genuine new part, it worked for a bit and then once again the water started coming in so I tried to create a mastic seal which did absolutely nothing, I then found on eBay you could buy an aftermarket gasket which is supposed to be 33% thicker, I applied the petroleum jelly as well as advised and thought yep that’s cracked it, I did this on Saturday it rained heavy overnight and Sunday morning guess what big puddle in the boot, I feel like I’ve exhausted every option now, is it possible the glass isn’t sealed properly or the adhesive holding the glass has started to perish in some way, I absolutely love the freelander 2, it’s the best car I’ve ever owned and I love driving it but I actually had the horrible thought of maybe it’s time to go and I really don’t want to do that, has anyone else had the persistent leak and how did you solve it, Thankyou...

On purchasing my Freelander i noticed the security compartment in the boot was filling with water after rain, after reading other peoples tips i decided to see if i could find the problem.
I noticed the water was only entering on the nearside so i removed the pvc casing, when it rained heavy i got in to see if i could find the leak.
There was a black rubber drain of tube with a grommet on it which had come away from the

metal exterior, the water was coming out of that and filling the compartment, i put it back in its place so the water now exits outside. Problem solved

Thanks for your reply and wow that’s something I’ve never heard of before, I did have a brain wave and decide to completely remove the tailgate light, I cleaned the area with panel wipe and then carefully stuck a strip of military grade gaffa tape over the cut out where the light was just to prove if is definitely the light, now I know that tape will not let water through, we’ve just had a downpour and there’s a puddle in the boot, I could carefully run my finger around the inside where the tape now sits and it’s dry as a bone so I started to think the glue that holds the rear screen in has gone but I’m definitely going to take your advice and check out the run off pipe tomorrow, many thanks for that
