Hi all.First post on here,so please be kind,as i don't quite know how the site works yet.
Anyway I purchased a working second hand key fob for my Freelander 2 on e*ay. I took it to Lookers land rover who told me it could not be re programmed as it was already programmed to another car. I have since contacted the seller who says it can be reprogrammed to suit my car. Confused now or what!! Who is telling the truth please?
Regards Dave

I think you will find that Lookers are correct in saying that a second hand key on the FL2 is useless. I am sure that I read somewhere that they are a 'one shot' fob and paired to a car during the initial programming and cannot be recoded to match another car.

So basically only a brand new fob can be matched to your car. A used fob can only be recoded alongside a new fob on the same car.
Your seller is maybe telling porkies. Wouldn't be the first on ebay eh?

Oh and Welcome.........

Report it to pay pal if you paid via them. Try and get a refund and send it back recorded delivery if pay pal request it sent back.

Hi,,does this meen its a wallet munching affair to get a second working fob.
As I only have the one this is a real pain.
Regards Gary

you are correct in saying everything LR is as expensive. Now to own up why i bought a second hand fob off e*ay. You see I've always only had one key fob that works. so back in November last year I bit the bullet and bought a new fob minus key blade,as I had that in the fob that didn't work.It cost me £160 for cash and programmed at the mechanics house. I felt like a dog with two tails knowing that i had two working fobs now. Forward now to first week in January.... I remember putting the fob just inside the kitchen door on the work top. a few hours went by,and i thought I'd better put the re cycling out. This I also placed on the work top just inside the kitchen door. Can you see where this is going?
I went out of the kitchen door, grabbed everything for the re cycling bin,and proceeded to throw the lot in the green bin. Not realising that i had also scooped up my my freelander/garage/workshop/shed/ front/back door keys on the same fob. So i duly wheeled the bin out to the road,as it was green bin day!!
I only realised what i had done when it time to lock stuff up. Right.......Keys where are you?? My wife and I spent the next four hours going through everything everywhere to no avail. Luckily i had another fob that worked,so I was able to drive the car. It was later that night when laying in the bath I got a eureka moment. As I remembered a 'clonk' noise during the act of throwing the stuff in the bin. not realising it might be my efin keys. This was the shortest bath I have ever had.All of five minutes. By now I had forgotten which bin I had thrown the rubbish in that morning. And the green bin was empty, so with the flood lights on at the back of my house i proceeded to empty the black bin.And we all know what black bins are like,so i won't go there. the keys were long gone up the arse end of the jolly old dust cart earlier that day. My wife phoned the local council to see if in some chance they might be found. But she was told everything would have been crushed already. So I resigned to the fact that i was now back to just the one working fob. I enquired to the guy who got my last fob telling him what a silly billy I had been. He must have thought Christmas had come early. Only this time I needed to order a new key blade to go with the new fob. Now comes the bit that hurts...........He said I'll get the fob and key blade for £200 cash.
Its now all done again. The extra annoying thing is....The one i lost was the new one i got last November. I hope you have had a little giggle at my story. The moral is DON'T BY A SECOND HAND KEY OFF E*AY.
Dave.

Hi Gary. Now thats a good idea. I invested in one of those gadgets that when you whistle it beeps back to show you where your keys are.Drove me up the bloody wall, as it went off every time my wife laughed. Hence it don'e whistle anymore.
