SORTED - the auto electrician found the break - said the wiring loom was a bit tight in that area and had caused the break. He told me it was a bit fiddly to get to (but not a dash out job !!).
He said it was on the passenger side (under the dash obviously) - near to some sort of junction box but was speaking electrical terms which mean nothing to me.
Anyway, everythings back to normal including the cruise control - total cost was £200+vat - still a bit expensive just for a wire break but cheaper than Land Rover wanted !!!
Thanks for that st-george, you are a gent, at least I can go with this information next week, it will save me money and the auto electrician a lot of time. I’ll let you know how I get on, it’s probably good to share on here in case anyone else has the same problem.

Fixed, exactly the same problem, thanks again

Hi Squeakin, I have the same issue here. Headlights are on all of the time and the cruise control has stopped working.
I've had a quick visual inspection of the wiring around the junction box, benieth the glove box, but thers nothing obvious.
Any chance that you have a bit more detail of where the break in the wiring occured?
Much appreciated.

I’m not sure, I took it to an auto electrician and showed him what st-george had posted and he found it more or less straight away. It cost £160 but was well worth it. Not sure if you will find it without the right tools to be honest. Sorry I cant help further.

Visually inspect the wiring in that area to see what you find. A small mirror will help see round corners. Feeling along the cable will allow you to find damage to it.

Hi I've got a 2007 model as well and have the exact same problems will look at the wiring in that area.
So I'm just looking for a broken wire hopefully find something with a dmm.

Well from lights staying on no high beam and no cruise control to getting in the car this morning and everything working as it should can't explain why never did a thing to it.

Thanks, I have given up trying to fix it myself and booked it into a local independent dealer recommended on this site Claugton Service Centre but can’t get it seen until 7th May so fingers crossed. Must be the month for me with Land Rover odd problems as my Discovery Sports has now come up with a hazard warning “ SOS system Limited Functionality “ and it will not reset?. Will let you know how I get on with my Freelander 2.
Regards
Hi Oults, did you get this issue resolved in the end?

Well here we go again the same problem lights stay on no high beam no cruise control.
Does anybody know what wire to look for.
Or would removing the battery reset anything this is the second time this has happened last time it all just started to work again for some unknown reason.

Had the auto electrical guy out yesterday and he thinks it's down to the main lights switch.
He cant seem to find any other faults the car was all plugged into a laptop and this guy knows what he's on about as soon as the switch arrives I will report back.

Well going by this thread, a new switch doesn't hold much hope of working.

Looks like its a very common fault with poor wiring design by the central junction box.

Not sure why the light switch would affect the cruise control. Are the CC features on the light switch?

The cruise control is on the steering wheel .
I told the auto electrical guy about the broken wire thing and he said that would not be the case as the lights wouldn't work at all.
As soon as the new switch arrives I will post the resort's on here.
Like you said it's a common fault and it seems to be on the 2007 model.

I believe it's a bad connection at the CJB, probably where the harness has got dislodged by a Passenger's foot.

Hi just to say you are correct new light switch arrived today and it's still the same I'll get him to look at the central junction box and report back as soon as I know.

My vehicle is just back from the garage. The fault was traced to a broken wire, just like everyone else has been saying. No power to the main light switch and the problem wire runs from the fuse box under the bonnet, F33, to the body control module in the footwell, connection C21C.
Rather than try and find the break and repair it, a new wire was fitted to bypass the fault. About 2 to 3 hours of work including the fault finding etc.
Hope this helps.

Hi I can now at last say it all fixed and yes it was a broken wire .
The auto electrical guy found the fault he removed the battery and it's casing and pulled the loom covering off to find a broken wire that comes from f9 fuse to the control box under the passenger foot well luckily he could see the broken wire it's the red one that Carries the live feed to the control box see pictures of the wire if you zoom in you can see one end has gone green with water ingress he said it had rotted through all back to normal now and I would like to thank everyone on this forum for all there help.

Great, nice to find the actual fault and location.
More and more electrics on cars that need to be diagnosed rather than just changing parts.
