Any ideas on this one. Freelander 2 Manual 2011. If i use reverse and then move away in 1st gear on the first use of the brakes after that i get a clunk from the front of the car. Only once . does not happen again until i do the reverse and move away sequence .

Mine also does this, and always has since I replaced all the brake components. I believe it's due to the front pads shifting in the caliper, or maybe the slides shifting in the guides. It seems to take up space in one direction when the brakes are applied, then takes it up in the opposite direction when the brakes are applied again.
That's all I've come up with in 2 years of having the issue. I did think it was the parking brake shoes moving, but the noise on mine comes from the front.

That's interesting as it seems to have started since i changed the front disks and pads. I wonder what is different ?

If the caliper brackets were cleaned of all the corrosion, then it's likely due to the increased gap where the pads sit.
I've checked mine several times, and can't find anything likely to cause a problem. It just seems the gap in the caliper bracket as a small amount larger than the pad, which the spring tensioners can't take up. So when changing direction of the rotor, the pads sift slightly one way, then the other, making an audible clonk.

Mine does the same. I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to identify the source of the 'clunk'. @Nodge68's suggestion sounds good to me. I'll stop worrying about it.

I had a clunk from the front end of my fl2, used to happen after upshifts in 1-2-3 and when decelerating in those gears, also when turning the engine off. Only sometimes, it was very hard to make it happen consistently.

It was like that for a year, and then one day the clutch slave cylinder gave out. New clutch assembly and DMF fitted - old DMF was knackered and likely caused the slave cylinder to fail. No more clunk.

The clutch pedal felt completely fine - no vibration in it at all - until the day it stayed stuck to the floor.

Mine went after it was stuck in 6th but not fully engaged. Used to have the clunk too after a rear brake change and leaving it in gear.

Had it checked by a local LR non dealer garage. All good. Can happen with non LR parts its seems.
