Some main dealers advertise discounts for new or nearly new (second hand) Freelander 2's. There's a chance I may become a Freelander 2 owner one day when I have to say farewell to my trusty Freelander 1 v6. As sad as that thought may be, I would like to know more about Freelander 2 pricing and possible discounts in advance.

Can I ask any Freelander 2 owners who have purchased Freelander 2's from main dealers (new or used) to tell me if they managed to get a discount and how. Some dealers list discounts on certain vehicles and other don't. I appreciate you may wish to keep this sort of information secrete, which I understand. My cousin has a 2001 Freelander, he was telling me the other day that as he worked for British Steel, now Tata, if he purchased a new Freelander from LR main dealer, he could get 25% off. At the moment he's my favourite cousin lol but I don't think I would get the 25% off.

So if you work or worked for any company associated with British Steel or Tata, go for it.
 
Just ask the salesman what discount he will give you and hold your nerve.I've seen loads on TV where people have got loads knocked off a brand new car!!!!!
 
You want to get on the mailing list of your local main dealer.

They constantly send out e-mails and letters about 'sales events'.

These actually happen a hell of a lot, every few weekends, more often bank holiday weekends. These are used to try and shift a lot of used cars in a short amount of time. There can be discounts of upto £1k off cars etc.



I'm not sure how you go about getting on the mailing list as they normally send out these invites to 'preferred customers', though that's just marketing bull****.
 
Just received a £750 voucher oft a second hand shorry, nearly new Freelander at ma local main dealer. Need to buy it in December I think. Only problem is the average price seems to have gone up £3k to £4k over the last year while I've been watching prices to see what they're like. supply and demand... At least there's more blue and red ones available.
 
I couldn't get anything of mine when I got it in july, I think that might be because it was to old.

I'm not sure if the sale thing they offered was created by LR or the dealer. The dealer sent it out I think. So far I've been offered 2 free half days at an eggperience centre. I did the first in a Disco 4 and the 2nd in a Freelander 2. It's good to get the offers through but the prices are far too high. That could be down to supply and demand. A lot of RR and D3/4 owners are choosing the Freelander 2 and Evoque. Downsizing but staying with the brand. May be down to cost or the way things are. Every time I look online at the second hand stock I see nearly half of them without pic's.
 
Just looked myself, dealers seem to be asking around at least £13,000 for under 10 years.
 
An FL2 SD4 XS was about £22k to £24k previously if it was under 30k miles, 2 years old, an auto (standard on SD4) and with full leather. Additional extra's put the price up a bit. Now they seem to be £26k to £28k+. Not just down to the time of year and snow tax. It was like that in the summer. I like the way they hide the price of the new FL2's which makes them reasonable at around £26k for a similar vehicle, only to whack the vat on at the end and push it up to the silly zone.

I work for TATA and was under the impression that the discount had been suspended due to the system being abused and some people buying them at discount and selling them on for a profit.
 
All they need to do is link the sale to yer employee number and make sure you still own it at a later date. If you sell it without letting them know... breach of contract.

They should also offer the same discount to loyal hippo's.
 
try Drive the Deal,almost 3grand off of the wifes new Nissan when dealer would only offer £300.
fill in details online,get a price straight away,no fuss,simple,easy

Best to go to the dealer with details of a few vehicles yer looking at at different dealers which are the same spec/miles/age as what they have on sale but cheaper. Only chance yer got at a discount is If they offer to match what the other dealers are selling for. ;)
 
I think things at the stealers have changed a lot since this thread started in 2013. Dealership HQ's employ pricing teams that comb the interwebs looking for vehicles of same age, spec and mileage as their own stock. Then they generate a [marginally] lower price than what they find to generate leads. Therefore, it's almost impossible to negotiate on price once you're in the showroom. Our place call it the 'everyday low pricing guarantee'. Best you can expect is a tank of fuel to offset the 'admin charges' passed on to customers these days :rolleyes:

We also haven't seen a pre-owned FL2 down here for some months, despite their popularity. I think that speaks volumes for FL2 owner satisfaction and vehicle reliability.

There's an easy £500 discount if you work as above and have an alternative at another dealer.
 
It's perhaps a question of; how much time you really wanna spend talking to sales executives? These guys and gals want to size you up on paper before you get a test drive. My tip is... find the place that will bend over on cosmetic repairs. Pick a car and be pernickety with your repair list. You'll find a deal there.
 
Push for things like new tyres if the existing ones are differently worn. Eg. front offside better or worse than nearside, even if legal. Same if there are different brands of tyres fitted.
Have a grope round each wheel and check the discs for wear. Ask them for new ones if there’s much of a lip. Disc wear is more a function of driving style than mileage.
If not fitted, ask them to fit a tow-hitch.
Round your offer down to the nearest thousand; which usually means knocking £995 off the asking price.
