Hi All

I am looking for some advice from the Landy specialists.

My Wifes Freelander 2 2.2 HSE started to leak oil and one mechanic had a look and told met its seals on the turbo as it is leaking on the intake side. So another qualified Ford mechanic had a look and took the intake pipe off where the resuscitation pipe comes in and its oily. Then as the car was idling with the oil cap loosened the it would move from the pressure / blowby.

Does this certainly mean its rings? and that the car has got blowby? Is there anything else that we can check that can be blocked causing blowby or the car to breathe? We really enjoy this car and if thats the case i will have to sell it at a loss. Any advice on the situation will be appreciated as i dont want to sell the car but i wont spend the money on new internals as where i live it would cost a fortune and months to get done.

What year is your FL2 where do you live, sound like it's a split hose to me, if so not to hard to sort out.
Its a 2011. I must also add a while ago the boost pipe on the front of the engine cracked and i did not replace it with a original but aftermarket silicon pipe, not sure i that can have a effect.

I am from South-Africa

How much oil is it leaking, I have a sd4 2011 and there is a certain amount of oil that seeps into the intake side and get rerouted to get burnt up, as long as it isn't massive amounts I'd not worry about it but just keep an eye on it. Plus surely if it was the rings you'd be blowing blue smoke from the exhaust all the time.

Thats exactly what i said to the mechanics, surely it will have blue smoke out the exhaust when when driving hard or idling for long periods. I start the car every morning for my with and it idles for atleast 15min before she leaves.

I have to say its leaking alot, from all the joints in the inlet its oily, down to the intercooler coupling and then on the Turbo intake side.

So my plan for this weekend is to check out the oil filter/seperator thing under the engine cover, clean out all the pipes on the intake side, clean the whole engine off and then see from there next week if that gives more clarity. But Rings and a new Turbo. . . I am very doubtful.

Can someone who owns a SD4 take off the oil cap and let it rest in place and see when their landy is running, how much does the oil cap move? I know on a petrol engine or engine with high tolerances the cap should not move in any way but on these Diesel engines? Isnt there just a little blow by after 190 000ks on the clock which is kinda normal?

What do you mean by move? Do you expect the cap to lift due to pressure? Or wobble up/down due to it being threaded.

After i had time this weekend, i removed all the intake pipes down to the turbo and also removed the Diesel rai to gain access to the cylinder head cover with the PCV, and it was full of oil, I ordered one now from Land-Rover and its not that expensive as expected for a OEM part. So i will start there. (part nr LR004200)

I managed to clean out all the pipes end the engine with engine cleaner and went for a test drive. All was fine but suddenly lost powersteering, Jacked up and bled the system but no luck so after some googling i figured there is ATF in instead of the recommended CHF202 pas fluid. So i ordered that also.

If anyone have some advice it will be appreciated but i will keep this thread posted if it will help anyone with the same issues.
