Hi All,

Please could anyone help? I have a 2008 Freelander 2 and I have had it on the drive for 8 months where it has not been used. I started it about 3 months ago OK. Yesterday, I found the battery completely flat. So, it's been on charge for 24 hours and is fully charged. When I press the start button, the dash and everything comes on as expected. I put my foot on the brake and press Start, there is clicking in the foot well and all the dash goes off and back on again. If the headlights are on, they go off and on again like there is a short circuit when I try to start the engine. Steering unlocks OK when the fob is put in.

Any ideas?

Cheers!

Steve

A broken battery can also have symptoms like this. What's the voltage on the battery and how old is the battery?

Thanks for confirming what I was dreading. I will look at that at the weekend.

Thanks again!
repair kit.

How many miles has the FL2 done is it the TD4 usually around the 65,000 mark the contacts will need changing to stop the starter motor from not working as it should, give the starter a tap with a wooden handle see if it starts.

The lights dimming indicates a drain on the battery, so starter is trying to turn and something stopping it. That could just be a failed battery. Standard car batteries don't like being fully discharged.

I'd replace the battery. A lead acid battery is basically destroyed by going flat, and the FL2 needs a battery in perfect condition to prevent such issues.

Battery is about 6 years old. It's a Yuasa the AA sold me when I was desperate in the middle of nowhere with a dodgy battery.

I charge it and it looks like its OK but I have a tester connected to the test port in the dash and its saying 9 volts which is not good. So it could be battery. I have put it on charge again to see if it livens it up.

Cheers!

Yes, sounds like battery to me as well. All I can do is purchase a new one. Then find its the starter as well :).

OK, I will check this out as well. I think battery first and then this is the second thing on the list as it's never been done and well overdue. Thanks!
