the other halfs 2000 Freelander Petrol has been running fine since we bought last 6 months

she's just done 40 miles and its just died on motor way doing 50 MPH as busy with traffic as lost power drew into hard shoulder

turned over, fired up, and then off it goes and then 100 yards just died

then fires up again

had RAC out as i was at work, and helpful as ever towed her home with 'Vehicle intermittintally cutting out, unable to diagnose due to location' and towed home finally

then ran it home on tow with a steel bar with engine on idle

tow home roughly 40 mins without it stalling

its on drive now, and i'm back from shift, i can hear it prime ( and rest will check as its 00:25hrs and dark)

is there any obvious ones to check ?

its done approx 103,000 miles and has had a reasonable heritage is best to describe history

any help / ideas appreciated as this is the first real hiccup its had

I think I get the general idea from what I read. The motor has cut out while on the motorway and you were doing 50mph in busy traffic. RAC summoned but they couldn't get running. It starts and idles but cuts out again when throttle is opened or load applied ie driving. Okay, potentially sounds like a fuelling problem. Check fuel filter is clean.

Ive just had a look now and the passenger side window switch has stuck on the UP position , and you can hear the motor click..... click...... click...... click with just background noise

is there a main trip switch on the freelancer that would trip the electrics if overloaded or is it a fuse ? as wondering if over load of the 12 v has cause it to shut off

or

is the overload dropping the sensor voltage down and then shutting down

either way I've looked and all the other connectors are clean and the wiring , be it as good as a 2000 plate would be, noting out of the ordinary

more thoughts on this as i hope its sorted

**HOPE**

Scratch that, i went over all the connectors etc and the ECU and no strange connectors /dirt / etc

and it fired up and drove around block ok

i resided to an 'off chance' and told Mrs she's ok to drive

and i got a text as she'd broke down again last 3/4 mile to home , i told her to leave it 10 mins and fire it up, and it fired up as normal and drove off... this was after about 14 miles this time... do i go at the fuel pump / filters ( is there a fuel sensor on the rail etc as well)

cheers

I would think it could be the filter on your 1800 petrol and it is probably the cables gone on the window

1.8 petrol filter is within the fuel tank pump. Remove pump from fuel tank and inspect/change filter

2000, or petrol ? 2000 = diesel, petrol = 1.8 or 2.5.

If 2000 diesel, sounds very similar to my fuel sensor problem. See other posts on fuel sensor replacement/fuel sensor harness replacement.

If petrol then sorry, no idea.

Good luck !

as its 103K i'm going for the Fuel Filter and a difference of £30 for a full pump or a flyer with o rings.... 12 month Warranty ... will be doing that ( in mean time a 5 min break between stalling will do till the parts arrive )

thanks guys!
