Just the cradle keeps the tank held to the underside. ;)
Oh dear, i hope I get home without it falling off! Got a new one ordered
It sounds like you bought this from a garage is January.

They would presumably have put a dodgy MOT on it because I can't see how that cradle could have got that bad in such a short period of time!
well i made them Mot it in Feb before I picked it up so I think the garage has been a bit generous passing it

I'd be writing to them asking to pay for the new one ... as it is a safety doo dat ... send pics and keep hassling ...

I've had a look into it and VOSA will only look into corrosion if it's within 3 months of the MOT so I think I'll have to leave it. Might get some pictures and send it across to the 2nd hand dealer (4x4 specialist btw) that sold me the car and the mot garage is owned by Someone I know via a neighbour. although he wouldn't have known it was being sold to me but it's annoyed me, especially as they passed it with an advisory of slight corrosion on brake pipes. They look ok to me so I wonder what's going on with this test...

I've just fitted new intercooler pipes to repair a smoking exhaust caused by a split. While I was at it, I fitted an EGR bypass, new oil breather filter and changed the IRD oil (oops, didn't mean to) and Oil. Enjoyed working on it, but that's when I noticed the fuel cradle that caused me to say "oh ____!"

I don't think I have the heart to be dropping subframe, dealing with seized bolts, undoing the prop shaft etc right now so a different local garage is going to fit the new cradle for me for approx £90, I got one delivered yesterday, I coated it with stone chip and hammerite with waxoyl last night so it should be good. I'll ask them to give the car a once over and highlight any other dangerous faults if there are any so I know where I am.

I'm hoping it's nearly sorted for a while, I'd never sell a car if I knew it had faults that needed urgent attention, there must be second hand dealers with that mentality, somewhere?

My mistake, MOT was just before Christmas. I don't know if a cradle could genuinely deteriorate that quickly but I'll definitely be cleaning and maintaining the new one regularly from now on

My learning is that I'd recommend that it is included in Land Rover pre purchase checks and is inspected at every service and any signs of corrosion are treated early.

The tank cradle can look rusty for ages before it goes into holes.
If you have treated your new one to plenty of protection. Then it should outlast the car. ;)

The cradle on mine is looking a bit "weathered" - but I want to replace the VCU and bearings before tacking that task! :)

If I recall correctly, cradles on the bay of fleas are currently around 90 quid?

I got mine from Rimmer Bros. with a can of stone chip and tin of hammerite with waxoyl. £78 quid for the Cradle I think. I got a local garage to fit it, paid an hour and a halfs labour at £90. I'll post a photo later. The wife picked it up, they said the cradle wasn't a great fit? had a quick look, seems fine and I'm just happy that filling it up won't cause the tank to fall off.
