Hi all I'm Terry andnew to this group. I have a freelander 1 td4 which when I reach about 80 kph I hear a chain like noise and then I see black smoke at the back

When it's cold it drives fine but as soon as it gets hot it's starts giving this problem. Over 80 kmph the noise is almost continuous if a accelerate with the black smoke

When was your PCV last changed, are any of your intercooler hoses split or have tiny holes, sound could be the crankshaft pulley.

Pcv was changed 3 months ago and cannot see any holes or splits in any of the piping. How does one check the crank shaft pulley

Think the normal method is to shine a torch on (the general area of) it and see if there's any metalic flecks floating around.

Basically they delaminate and I presume metal rubs on metal causing the flecks.
