Hi guys,

I've run into an issue with my trusty steed! The tail gate/door has frozen shut. The window comes down, and after consulting wiring diagrams, and the workshop manual, I've decided the fault is with the connector to the solenoid for the tail gate, or the solenoid itself. I've put a multimeter though the connector, and it's showing around 11v when the rear handle is pressed, so i'm guessing that something's wrong with the solenoid. So I have two questions:

1. Is 11v enough to operate the solenoid?
2. How can I replace the solenoid, when I cannot open the rear door? And do I need professional help...

Thanks for any advice!!

(I've given the connector on the solenoid, and the wired connector a dose with some electrical cleaning spray - hopefully it'll help!)

Re: Tailgate latch not latching
if you have to keep energising the handle then it is the solenoid sticking, white plastic affair attached to the lock mechanism, it can be dismantled , cleaned and lubed, but they are not that expensive.

I need to get the door to open first haha
That's not so easy. You need to get the internal panel off first so you can access the lock mechanism. There are some screws that are under the door which doesn't help. Good luck ;)

my wife's got stuck and it was the cable but get at it I needed to get the door open I pulled the latch and then very slowly pulled the door open the glass scraped on the top plastic but it did open .

I tried looking for a latch but could see none the feckr is frozen shut :/

If you can get the rear window down, the plastic cover is not screwed on at the top, but is clipped in, if I remember correctly. You could try prising the top out to give you a bit of access. Don't really know how well this might work though.
