I have seen afew posts referring to a FL1 with a heated screen, can this be fitted to other FL1's?? I mean, order one for the HSE and fit it to my GS? Will I have the loom in place? Or will I need to retro fit it? Just toying with the idea for now, fed up of defrosting the inside of the windscreen on a day to day basis now!!

Cheers, Mick.

I asked this not long ago but nobody could give a simple yes or no.

Best answer I found was that the heated windscreen technology was patented by Ford. Therefore, it was only an option on Freelanders after Ford had bought Land Rover. In my case, my car was built while Land Rover was under BMW ownership. So I guess that means that I don't have the facility to fit a heated windscreen.

Interested too... Where are the wires to the heated screen, if they're fitted and the heated element in the window int fitted? I see from the 2001 LR cat that a heated screen was optional on a v6 es only - which mine is.

I've got a 2004 (54) plate Freelander with a heated windscreen, but with the TD4 (BMW) engine. Not sure if that means whether you can or can't have it fitted to your car - there is a switch to the left of the dash (above the rear heated windscreen switch) for the heated windscreen, so I'd presume that you need a switch for it as well.

2004 HSE with Heated windscreen

The way it usually works is, if the option was available on any model of your year then the loom will have the connections. All you need is the relay fitted in the fuse box and a screen with elements and a switch of course. If you remove the plastic grille in front of the screen, you should see a female spade connector for the +ve connector on each side. The return is bolted to the bulkhead.

Mine is a 53, TD4 GS. I will have a look for the switch blank and the wiring connectors underneath the plastic. Thanks for the help.

Mick.

As most cars already have a rear window heater couldn't you just take a feed directly from that to another switch or at least scotch clip to the rear switch. As for the screens I would imagine they are exactly the same size weather heated or not. Just a thought guys :p

Facer no....

This has been mentioned on the Disco forum too. There is a lot of current used in the element and I wouldnt recommend joining the HRW feed for the front screen. Look for the loom connections first, they may already be there.

As long as the feed went to a relay, then yes this would work.

If the screen size is the same for all models (Assuming so) then a retrofit would be possible - thought about it myself although changing cars.....

Steve
