Seems like the O2 sensor, is it a big job to replace?

Looks like this is for the 2005 1.8, it should not be hugely hard I believe it is located on the exhaust manifold headers and the issue will be that it is rusted in. Good luck! I am sure someone will be able to provide more accurate details with pictures.

Yes, the 1.8 petrol in the 2005 model Freelander. Apparently, it has two of these (one pre- and one post-cat) and this seems to be the easier one

Ah there you are then I still think Rust is going to be your main gripe, if you have a blowtorch, minding the wires, put it to use, great for rusty bolts and nuts

If someone has done this and can offer some advice (pictures are appreciated), I'll gladly accept. Had the car for a year now and replaced a few parts myself, so I can hold a wrench and like to get stuck in, but any help is always welcome

A decent o2 sensor socket is a must. It has a cut out for the cable. Maybe a short breaker bar.

I think my faulty sensor is the one located near the engine, fortunately!

In that case it should be similar to my 1.8, I will be working on the headers this weekend, I can grab some pics for you if you like?

Special O2 sensor socket won't fit in gap. O2 sensor is on the engine side of the exhaust manifold.
if it is duff, best plan is to cut plug off it and thread a ring spanner on that fits tightly to prevent rounding. Then a sharp blow with a hammer to unscrew it. Soak with penetrating oil for a day or so and then carry out removal with a warm manifold. Not too hot or you burn your pinkies !

Literally just got the pictures!

In-between all the headers on the exhaust

Kinda hard to see but it is the cable in there (I am looking from on top with no heatsheild) keeping in mind this is a pre2001 FL1

Thanks, got it! Now, I'll just have to hope it is the O2 sensor and not something else
