Hi guys,

Firstly hello... I've happily owned my Freelander 1 TD4 HSE for over a year now and I can honestly say I love it. The aim is to keep it going for as long as possible and only ever get rid when it's offically at the point of no return - hopefully regular servicing, maintenance and learning many 'how to fix this issue' skills along the way can keep this wee beast going for many years. I do have one big issue tho...

So...

I'm looking for a bit of advice.

My Feelander 1 TD4 runs fine but after driving for around 20 mins the gear changes become noticeably more difficult.

There's no crunching and as it stands I can still change gear but it's now becoming hard work.

I'd much rather fix the issue then sell the car so I'm hoping someone's had the same experience and not spent too much money finding the solution .

Thanks.

First off, change the gearbox oil, as it'll likely never been done, and they really do benefit from clean oil.

If an oil change doesn't cure it, then it's likely down to the clutch hydraulics.
It could just need a simple bleed, which will also refresh the fluid, both of which could well cure the issue.

Oh and I also plan on keeping my FL2 for as long as is practical.

Thanks for the reply.

I'll be doing that very job as of tomorrow.

Fingers crossed it sorts the problem .

Also check out the clutch bracket. Mine had exactly the same problem, and was taking most of my strength to change gear sometimes. Changing the bracket sorted it permanently.

The TD4 doesn't have a bracket for the slave cylinder, it uses a concentric cylinder/bearing instead. ;)
