It is actually really hard for a new FL1 owner to figure out what diagnostics systems will work with the FL1. Information is scattered across the net and nobody seems to give a clear answer.

By far the cheapest option is a a knockoff delphi ds150 interface from China with dodgy software installed on an old laptop. These range from £25 to £65, the more money you spend, the better the interface you get.

Once setup this will provide full diagnostic access to all of the freelander's systems.

Things that don't work include: ELM327 style dongles, JLR mongoose (ISS/SDD), VAG-COM etc.

It has taken me many years but I have finally come to understand why you cannot see anything useful using a standard ELM327 style dongle. It would seem older LR vehicles used a kind of security authentication for diagnostics access. Beyond that it is just boring old K-Line one wire like everything else. Below is a link to the code for calculating the security response for the TD5 engine. I suspect the FR1 uses exactly the same mechanism but since getting a knockoff delphi I am less inclined to figure it out.

Hi, I use a Foxwell NT530 on my 2004 TD4 facelift FL1 & my 2001 TD5 D2. You order it with JLR vehicles (it covers all JLR as well not model specific like some code readers). It also has a SD card slot for storing live data etc & you can add up to 3 other manufacturers vehicles (extra cost but reasonable prices).
Not sure what year or eng. type yours is but in my opinion it's a good little scanner & has paid for itself 10x over so far, well worth a look.

I have a delphi, wow, icarsoft and Pscan.

The Pscan does everything the others do and more. It also has a data logging facility for intermittent fault tracing.
It does actuator operation, wipers, Windows etc and states temperature of auto trans oil etc.
Works on all ECUs, abs, ccu, ems, immob.
Allows fob programming, key enabling.

Well worth a look.. I don't use the others now. The icarsoft was the most expensive and is the least use. On my 2002 TD4 it only gives engine live data and fault codes. Nothing else works.

I used the Delphi clone software with the WOW interface, I still use this occasionally on my FL2.

The Icarsoft i930 is ok, but is of limited use really, giving just basic codes, except for the automatic box, where it doesn't even connect.

If I still had a FL1, I'd be looking into the Pscan.
Having a FL2, I now use SDD with a Mongoose adapter, which gives dealer level diagnostics and programming, however its of no use to for the FL1.

Can I ask what you paid for it I have just had a look and they are 150€ here with extra manufactures 80€

It was me that introduced the eBay delphi clones to this group, I still reckon they are the best £30 you can spend on eBay as they go into surprising depth on most vehicles, for example this week I've been using it to manipulate the electronics controlling the hydraulics on our Citroen C5. The electronic suspension gubbins is something that normally requires the peugeot/citroen propriatery Lexia hardware interface and their PeugoPlanet2000 / DiagBox softwares. For the Citroen's suspension, the Delphi doesn't have as many options as the proper tool, but to be fair, the software operations it's missing on the suspension need special physical tools, so you'd only be able to mess about and probably mess something up. So for a catch-all I'd recommend a delphi clone.

However, the P-Scan is written by a community member from this forum, @pscan.eu - and gets really good feedback from those who use it, so for a freelander specific solution, I'd say P-Scan all the way.

@pscan.eu we have made our case, time for some sales bumpf !!! :D
I've got to admit tht as much as I love my delphi unit, there have been times reading this forum and your exploits with the pscan that I wish, if I only had a freelander to care for, that I had a Pscan rather than a delphi. Oh, and @Richard.Wagner my pscan affiliat link is http:/its.so.good.just.buy.it/now

Don't think so.
Use the For Sale. List the benefits, refer to our posts, list the price and that, to me, seems perfectly in line with the objective of the forums.
What do others think??

The other option, now that the device has been used and reported on, is for those interested to PM you directly and ask about it. That can't break any rules.
Have the bumpf ready to PM back!!

How come we can post ebay/amazon/motor factor links and discriptions yet one of our own with a community verified product feels he daren't share some product info?
Well if he won't post it, I will: https://pscan.uk/features/freelander1.html

Yes, from my experience it is the best available all round product for a Freelander 1. I also admire the designers modesty and honest approach.
Reinforce the above message that anyone wanting a useful all round device as described in this and other threads makes contact directly.

In the forums defense, all forums have to have rules or they descend into chaos. No one wants to participate somewhere where every reply is "buy my product!". The moderators have been pretty tolerant of me and so I think I shouldn't take the mickey.

Maybe you should open dialogue with the moderators, and see if becoming a Landy Zone donor, or sponsoring the Freelander section wouldn't buy you more leeway as a bona-fide "trader"?

I was pointed here when looking for diagnostics tools that work and I've got to share my experiences, I bought an Autel AL619, it read the ECU codes as well as ABS and SRS codes and cleared them down once I'd resolved the causes. I've not used it much but I cannot fault it for my 2002 Freelander TD4
