I recently bought a mark 1 Freelander, unfortunately the radio aerial has been snapped off does anyone know how to replace it?

I had this too - I used a small drill bit, I think it was about 2 or 3mm and was going to use an 'easy-out' on it. I got somewhere between 5 and 10mm down the thread that was left in the mount and noticed it moved slightly. Reversed the drill and it unscrewed with the drill bit. That was on a 15 year old FL1 when I accidentally snapped it off clearing snow from the roof .
Give that a go to start with, other than that you could go to a breakers yard and get a replacement stem and mount.

If it's just the aerial and the base a threads are not damaged then clamp down on it with some pliers and spin it off anti clock wise, some loosen juice might help as well

Which bit is snapped? If the aerial section, then it unscrews from the base. Mine was like this when I bought it, and I screwed in an old Toyota aerial (same screw thread). But then I broke the aerial base a few months ago with a jet wash nozzle (oops) and now have to replace the whole thing. A nuisance, because I need to drop the headlining

Hopefully sufficiently-related note ...
Does anyone have experience of installing a DAB head, and is the standard aerial good enough and/or is there a straight swap for a DAB-compatible aerial that can be installed through the light (on the 3 door) without having to dismantle the whole car??!

Thanks all!

Mine had a DAB head when I bought it. The standard aerial is insufficient I understand - and mine has a self-adhesive aerial loop stuck to the inside of the windscreen on the nearside.

If I get a chance this weekend, I'll drop the interior light to have a look and confirm what the guys are saying - and I gather aftermarket sharkfin aerials are available - and therefore could be a straight swap. I would imagine it would require another cable to be run to the head unit. I need to run some power cables for my MGF rear view mirror, so I plan to look at this as well :)

Mine had the standard radio fitted that didnt work so i brought an alpine dab radio , freelander sat nav adaptor (single din) i did buy an aftermarket adaptor but imo it was rubbish and a splitter and i use the original aerial for fm and dab no probs

Thanks rob it would be interesting to see some pics of one fitted to an f1 before i start taking mine to bits:D

Inclement weather and Christmas shopping meant very little time to have a look at this - but will do! :)

There you go: remove the mud-mounted interior lamp and there’s a neat access point for the aerial mounting - a threaded 5mm bar that passes through the roof panel. :)
