I'm going to buy a freelander 1 in the new year to replace my Disco 2 - any thoughts on accessories? I'm specifically after the 3dr TD4 manual. I want to enjoy some greenlaning so I'm already thinking suspension lift and tyres - any thoughts?

Yeah Bearmach do a two inch lift kit and there seems to be plenty of tyre choice around. I'm just thinking that this time I'm going to do more to modify and make it more individual to me than my other landrovers. So far I'm enjoying looking around at possibilities but I thought I'd ask if anyone has any ideas, or tried something that worked or didn't.

What do you want to do?

search for it. very rare that you will want to do something that somebody hasn't already done.

Start by looking at some of the threads like my **** freelander. there are several.

I've looked at wheel spacers as well. I've found 30mm, 38mm and 50mm. Are they a sensible option for looks and driveability?

Pm me
I have a td4 Freelander 1 3 door with all that you need to do to it.
If you want any help and advice don't ask on here they just take the **** where they have no right to.
I can do all what a disco does just as well and in some cases easier.

Let me get this straight. Your replacing a discovery series 2 with a freelander. Why ?

The Disco has reached the end of the road. It just scraped through the MOT with advisories all concerning the chassis. The rear chassis rails are splitting and will need to sorted. There are the 'three amigos' showing on the dash. HDC, TC and ABS all lit up. The gearbox could really do with replacement or reconditioning, the ACE system has already cost me £600 to repair a leak and the air springs have let me down twice (pun intended :)) And both sunroofs leak! I've always wanted a soft top landy but never quite had the funds for a third vehicle to use as a toy. So, long story short, I decided that the 3dr freelander would give the top off option, is cheaper than buying a replacement Disco and would still fulfill my off road fun. I'm not a seasoned mud plugger and have no wish to be. I've owned a landrover now for over 10yrs (LR90, Disco 1 and the Disco 2) so change is in the air!

Cheers guys, the modified hippo thread has got plenty to keep me thinking till I find the right vehicle. Watch this space!

Does your D2 have a locking centre diff?

We make and supply lift kits, guards, ladders, receiver hitches and so on...

Check out eBay, or page 27 of LRO this month where our lift kits are featured

I can vouch for SES88 lift kit. I have one fitted, along with 30mm spacers. Any wider on the back and the back wheels will be sticking out of the wheel arches.

I have the 5 door,

+1 ive had no end of sound advice on here and hopefully managed to help others too. Yes there is banter....usually friendly. Admittedly have seen some advice in the negative sometimes we need te be told that our bright ideas may not be so bright.
BTW I own both a disco td5 and a freelander td4 and id be hard pressed to say one wax better than the other, they each have their own advantages and are both very capable vehicles.

Just wondering - how did it get through the MOT with warning lights on the dash?
My failed until I cured the 3 amigos.

A dodgy connection in the ABS module keeps blowing the fuse. I've been using the services of the garage I took it to for the MOT for over 10 years, they replaced the fuse, the lights went out, they MOT'd it. After they turned off the ignition the fuse blew when they restarted it to move it out of the test bay. So a bill that I was expecting to be on the large side turned out to be just the cost of the test itself. But I'm not throwing any more money at it - it'll an eBay spares or repair special in the new year! :)
