Hello from Turkey. There are 3 Amigo headlights in my vehicle for Freelander 1 2000 1.8 and when I read this with the Delphi device, it shows the Ecu internal valve relay error. After cleaning codes, sometimes when ı push the break pedal it comes again with 3 amigos. Please tell me what you think.

I would try changing the brake light switch before worrying too much. Solves 90% of the amigos. You can take it apart and clean or repair contacts if you can't find a new one.

thanks for reply but ı have already change it with new one. Also ı checked abs ecu which is under the passenger seat is well condition

With fault of Ecu internal valve relay error, would point me to internal of the ABS pump.

As far as I am aware that's where the internal valve relay is.

but pump has not a relay, you sure that it has a relay?

I don't think it means an electrical relay, just a way of releasing brake pressure.

My Freelander is also one of the early ones with the WABCO ABS.

It has failed twice - both times it was the shuttle valves in the modulator/pump. The error though did reference the shuttle valves - not sure if the word relay was in it. This is a very common problem for the WABCO unit - the D2 guys suffer with it as well.

Both times, I've replaced the modulator/pump with one from a breakers. Obviously the first 1 I got was on its way out, cos it didn't last very long.

I don't know, it doesn't sound like the same errors I had.

I just googled "internal valve relay error" - there's all sorts of rather general results returned, nothing to clearly highlight what is wrong - from a quick scan of the results.

A chap reported "OE ABS VALVE RELAY ERROR" and that was cleared by replacing the modulator - but I don't think that would have been a WABCO.

appears to show documentation from/about WABCO. It explicitly references a "Internal valve relay". Its diagnosis for this states that if it can't "switch off" "Replace ECU - Internal failure" and if it can't "switch on" then check a fuse and if that's OK then replace. So these do not appear to relate to the modulator - rather the ECU and its wiring.

describes the "Internal valve relay" as "provides supply voltage for ABS pressure control valves" - I dunno if this would be in the ECU or modulator. It ties in with the same info as the link above with errors, so you'd assume its the ECU.

But then I come across this link...


Its a Landie link for WABCO on D2. It references your error and shuttle valves. Unfortunately the "option B" they refer to is in a link that no longer exists - but I presume is the oft use home fix for the shuttle valve errors.

Up to you what you make of all this. If you can get a cheap modulator and don't mind brake fluid ****ing out everywhere no matter how tidy you try to be, and fully bleeding the brakes - you could give replacing the modulator a go. I got both mine pretty cheap, but that was a few years ago, I bet they are getting quite difficult to come by now.
