Freelander 2 hse sd4 auto hunts when put in drive or reverse when stationary , stops whe put in natural an clues please,

Need more info. Better description of what you mean by "hunt"

Hi yes when stationary at say traffic lights for example in drive the engine misses and slight increase in revs making the vehicle move forward a few inches, but this wont happen every time i stop, when put in neutral it stops surging, this only happens when forward and reverse is selected when stationary, sometimes i can drive say 60 miles miles with no problem , then drive to my home and stop in drive and it will start to surge

Has the transmission fluid been changed in the last 50k miles? If not, then that's the first thing to do.

Thanks for your suggestion , il get that done asap and let you know the outcome, seems that you could be right as when first driven when cold no problem, then after a few miles it starts again then when really hot it stops,
