Hi to all and thank you for the welcome to the forum.
This is my first post. Probably of many.
I just aquired a freelander 1.8 5 door. bought without looking at common faults, only to find mine has most of them.
Right, to start with I was getting a bad vibration from under the car. I assumed this was the vcu bearings so removed the prop (vcu to be changed too shortly) the vibration has now moved from the centre of the car to the front. What could be causing it now...

ALso im losing water. The engine doesnt lose power, there is no steam from exhaust and no water in oil or oil in water.. Is this likely to be the manifold gasket.. The head gasket was done according to history a while ago.

Thanks in advance....
Davido

water could be escaping from cracks in the expansion tank, faulty expansion tank cap or small hole in a hose that opens when the system is under pressure.

the vibration - did you remove both props and vcu and bearings?

Yeah removed all the prop and vcu from axle to IRD...Also while under the car I noticed there was some water or something in the exhaust... I could hear it swishing when I shook it...

Another note... The vibration is not as bad as it was now. Could it be an engine mount or is there a mount on the IRD

When you say vibration could it also be described as a rattle? Just wondering cos I've had months of an annoying rattle from underneath my 1.8, especially low to mild rpm. Its been inspected by countless people who have all drawn a blank. After more googling the myfreelander website has shown me that a known fault could be a cracked ird bracket, the only thing that hasnt been checked.
