Just a question MHM, would it also be worthwhile having a body such as the RAC or AA do a vehicle inspection as well to make sure nothing is missed?

Cheers
wouldnt do any harm.... or another landy garage.
just remember all faults found within 6 months are deemed to have been there at time of purchase, Do not get fobbed off.

Are we bi chance waiting for some one to come on & say that they think the SUN shine's from their AR*E & then for the company to come on & say they've never heard of Mikeyg34 & would NEVER sell a motor in that condition ?:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Whatever the outcome, remember to come back and let us know how you get on. :)
Hi. I will do. I'm really chuffed by how, helpful and welcoming you've all been.

But in my experience Foxhills Defender Centre / Ottershaw Defenders Centre and Charlie Smailes are to be avoided at all cost!!

I was looking to buy one through them which looked good. Seems like I had a lucky escape! Which one did you get?

Blue M Reg 300tdi with windows in the back and a galv chassis. I think the picture might still be in the website.
Structurally it's a solid truck but there are SO many rough edges and SO many things not right with it. Once I've finished I'm sure it'll end up being OK but it'll be a load of work and not what you expect from a dealer.

Not sure what I was expecting TBH. Just wanted a) to see if I was the only one they'd duped b) If they were known to the community if so, what was the consensus. c) warn off others from using Foxhills Defender Centre based on my bad experience

Having paid a deposit and agreed to go and look at the Landy the guy then starts phoning and pressured me into paying for it to be delivered, to which I agreed. In hindsight,it was a stupid thing to do but I thought Foxhills Defender Centre was a reputable dealer. Every car is supposed to be sold with full 12 month MOT, full mechanical check and Service. The guy told me it they had replaced the timing belt and it was even to have had a full valet so I thought everything would be fine.

When it arrived the guy would not allow me to test drive it or even unload it until I'd paid, so I paid and the truck left quickly.

The MOT was only for 9 months, it has clearly not been serviced, the bolts on the timing cover have not been disturbed somthstmwas a lie.

Once I drive it the front diff whines so badly you can hardly hear yourself think. The heater motor was shot and keeps blowing fuses, half the lights didn't work and there were no door keys.

I immediately called the guy who disputed the problems but finally conceded to send replacement parts. After two weeks of phoning and texting nothing arrived.

I feel a bit stupid for trusting a supposedly reputable dealer. Has anyone else come across these con men? Also, if you've not - please be warned and avoid them like the plague.
Hi Mikeyg34
I had a similar experience with this guy, his name is Charles Smailes if you Google him you will find out just what you are dealing with, he is on a suspended sentence I don't understand why the courts let him run a business ! he needs to be stopped !! Please share !

Surrey Trading standards should be contacted !

Really sorry to hear about your experience. Vehicles aren't subject to the Sales and supply of goods act, however, if you are disputing whether it is fit for purpose you should obtain an engineers report detailing the faults and you have to give the retailer the opportunity to make the repairs. It sounds like you ha be a mountain to climb though given the sellers attitude. Trading Standards officers will guide you through the process but I'm thinking you may need to take him to court in the long run. Good luck with it. On the plus side, the members here seem to be really friendly and many will be able to help and advise on repair to keep any costs down. I'm good ad making tea!

Are you employed by a Land Rover sales outlet?

Sale of Goods
The Sale of Goods Act is the main article of law protecting buyers when their purchases go wrong.

It is in the interest of anyone who sells new and used cars, goods or services to understand the implications of the Act and the responsibilities they have under it.

Consumer rights have greatly increased through a major reversal of consumer protection law, and we continue to register an increase in the number of complaints against clients, which we are partly attributing to the legislation. Whereas before the regulations came into force the burden was placed upon the consumer to prove that a vehicle was faulty when purchased from a dealer, the position is now the reverse, so that if the consumer complains within six months about vehicles sold or accessories and spare parts fitted, the dealer must prove that these were of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose.

No I'm not. A friend once bought a car that turned out to be clocked and what I quoted was what they had been told. They had to go back to the seller, give them the chance to rectify the issue and after they failed to do so they took them to court. My friend found others who had similar experiences and as a group they prosecuted...and won the case. Dealer ended up with custodial sentence.
Like I said, a friendly helpful bunch here . Well, that told me.
