I wanted to show you this, ive serviced my electrical system and fitted new sealed beam units, photos are both dipped amd high, lights are a bit dirty due to the wet roads the other day and the aim is slightly high, they are getting aligned .tomorrow, but as far as I can see they work just fine. Just thought I would share this, when I get to the PC!

Got to the PC at last.

The bullet connectors were not cleaned so I reckon I am still getting less than 12 volts at the lights, and my phone camera isn't all that great, and the alignment is still slightly out but with half an hours work and a few quid on new sealed beams they are very much enough to be able to see where I am going. So if you have dim lights give the electricals a service and fit new bulbs.

I have updated bulbs and crystal lenses - I reckon my lights are as good as most modern cars. I have also fitted a boomslang harness, really just to protect the lighting switch.

Those relay harnesses, landrover didnt fit relays for a reason, the relay is a weak point in the circuit, the switch is more than enough for 55 watts, even massivly brighter bulbs still only use 55 watts, the reason the switch fails is heat, resistance causes heat, if the electrical system is in good order this wont happen. I am thinking about hard wiring mine all the way to the fuse box, then so long as the switch contacts are kept cleam there shouldnt be anything to worry about.

Relays obviousley, the switches dont fail unless the electrical syatem is tired, thats why they didnt fit them to begin with, possibly new build regs forced them to. I reckon those Lucas can take way more amps than the lights draw, if they couldnt they would never have used them.

Lol!
Do you remember British Leyland? Because that's basically who made the decision on such things.

Half agree. New head lights where one of the first things I did on my 110 (RDX Crystals with 55w white bulbs) considerable improvment over standard but still, more light is better regardless. Especially if night laning or coming back at night in the middle of Wales!
