Hi all,

I have spotted some of the fold up side steps for Defenders for sale. I have generally seen them on later model Defenders, so before I purchase anything I thought I would check and find out whether they will fit my 1986 90.

Does anyone know if they will fit?

Thanks.

Thanks for that. Does anyone have a diagram or a link to a diagram of how they are mounted? Even a photo of the underneath showing the mounting would be helpful, I want to know if I will be able to mount them myself or if some heavy duty/specialised tools (such as powerful drills) are needed.

you will need rivnut or something similar to fasten to chassis and just bolts in existing holes in sill channel ,

i kept the fold up steps when i traded in my old 89 110CSW, when i went to fit them to my 98 300TDI 90 they wouldnt go on because of the fuel tank, Thankfully i never botherd making them fit as they would have been well ripped off when i go offroading.
I just have a heavy set of tree sliders which short arses can use as a step

Tree n rock sliders are better - but they do get slippy when wet, unless yu fit some grippa tape(no pun intended) on top

Ripped my side steps off on first off road outing:doh:

Like Mad Hat Man says, why not consider tree & rock sliders instead.:)

I have 4 slightly bent and seized up ones if anyone wants them for free.... you have to collect, I am not wrapping them fookers up :) PM me.... first come first served.

One of mine got ripped off off road and then I took the other off. Utterly pointless, don't bother with them. Learn to jump higher or wear platforms.

I carry a plastic milk crate for my Doris.

To get my great grandma into the disco 3 we have to lower it to access height where it basically scrapes the floor and then we have a small folding step like a caravan step. :D
