hi chaps

yet another question, whats the common way anyone fits fog lights to the freelander. Im looking at the brackets that stick out from the bumper. Not sure if to get a wiring loom or do it myself. I know the loom is easier but am I right in thinking they only work when the headlights are on full beam? obviusly dont want it set up like this....who can drive in the fog on roads with main beam on constantly so the fogs are on????

Buy the relay, and make your own wiring loom, don't use the ready made ones, they aren't the best. As for mounting them, be careful with them brackets, I'm not sure if the laws on where they can be mounted, can be met with them brackets.

I think fog lights should be run independently from the lights. As you say its pointless having them running on full beam in the fog as you wont benefit from them.

If they come on with main beam then i think they would be classed as driving lights and not fog lights
Try a search on www.legislation.gov.uk for all the rules and regs on vehicle lighting
search under The road vehicles lighting regulations 1989

sounds like your taking about spot lights not fog light. My fog light work off of there own switch but my front spots come on with my full beam. Which have you bought?

there is a loom available for either.

there is also a definition of locations for fog lights which specifiy a maximum distance from ground level, and a maximum distance from the outside of the vehicle and so on, but I just cannot be arsed to trawl the internet to find the answers again.

main beam or driving lights are much more relaxed when it comes to rules, as long as they come on and off as a pair, and come on and off with the main beam, and aren't further out than the edges of the vehicle.

I haven't bought any just yet but I'm thinking of some wipac ones for either the roof on a bar or on the front but just not sure about wiring.

I have just put 4 wipac ones on my roof. The wires are just ran down the rain gutter of the windscreen for now, until I find a more permanent arrangement.
Be careful of the wipac "spotlights" on eBay. Some people list the s7014 as being a spotlight, it's not, it's a work lamp. The 4 I have are these, they will work a treat off road, but not much good on road.
