I'm moving my fog lamp to a Mud console, however my haynes states 3 wires going into the switch, as there is, however the 3 I have are a different colour to the colours stated in the haynes manual, so I'm hoping someone can help, can anyone let me know which colour cable is power/earth/lamp feed into my switch? Ive got a thick red/yellow, and a thin red/yellow feeding into the same pin, and a blue/purple feeding into another pin. My Carling on/off switch has 4 pins, earth, lamp feed, power in, power out.

Anyhelp is greatly appreciated as I've an MOT next weekend lol.

Thanks folks

Multimeter ???? the lamp feed for the carling switch can be from any ignition switched live. Earth is obvious??? and that only leaves a power in & out..

One of the wires will be to ensure that the fog lamps can't come on with the headlamp dipped beam

Sorry, don't know which if your colours differ to the manual - as Redhand says - multimeter or test probe should quickly reveal what is what

Is this for a 300TDi Defender (in your signature)

Where is your rear fog lamp switch fitted? - is it a small lever on the right hand side of the steering column? - or down by your right knee in the panel of 3 switches?

If it's a rocker switch by your right knee, does it latch?

i.e. - when you press it, does it stay in the 'down' postion, or does it spring back?

.

Paul, its down by my knee, yeah latches when turned on?

That's good, it's a simple circuit, rather than the later models that involve an ECU.

The Blue/Purple wire is the live feed from the fuse box.

The thick Red/Yellow wire is the switched live out of the switch to the rear fog lights and the thin Red/Yellow wire goes to the warning light in the instrument pod.
