Hi folks,

whilst I have important stuff like EAS to be getting on with, one of the more frustrating issues I have is that my wing mirrors are a wee bit flaccid. They fold back much too easily with even a modest breeze whilst on the move causing them to fold back,

is there any way of replacing / upgrading the springs without having to replace the entire unit ?

thanks again for your help

Bob

I dunno.
I got manual folding ones, they can take considerable wallop yet have nice action on them. If someone clips my wing mirror they will be sorry no transit van wing mirror breeze will fold them in. They do creak when you fold/unfold them but I’d guess the springs would be too strong for electric

Hi,

Yes mine are manual folders too, they're just a bit reluctant to stay put.
The units themselves are fine and if i could just replace the springs, I would

Ok, but surely it’s possible to just replace the spring rather than the whole unit ?

Will have a deeper dive online to see if I can find a breakdown.

-sorry I’ve picked up some ‘bad’ engineery habits !

I seam to remember they are clamped down with one of those washers with fingers that only go on one way, but i may well be totally wrong.

Correct, big star washer, the mirror has a couple of rollers that locate into grooves in the mounting arm ,the plastic may be worn.threw one away a while ago, knew I should have kept it even just to photograph the bits. I do remember the star washer was a bastard to get off and the wiring ran through its centre.

That’s more than likely it, mirror not staying in its ‘locked’ position.

oh well... I’ll see where we are after I get the suspension sorted !

Ah good the memory is not going as soon as the wire through the middle was mentioned it all flooded back from when i tried to repair on after one was clouted going over a narrow bridge:(
ended up just replacing it.
