Hi all,

As a lot of you may know flies are bloody aggravating when they land on freshly applied paint. Being on a dairy farm and the bullpen being right next to my workshop I am not short of flies in the general area in which I am painting. However, the flies landing on the fresh paint is bearable, what my issue is is the flies landing on touch dry paint and defecating on it which extends my work time and just really irritates me. Does anyone have any suggestions how I can keep the blighters off my paint without resorting to moving or building a proper spray booth?

Thanks

Albert

you can get thin plastic sheeting you can hang to make a makeshift tent booth

Exactly what I am doing now, a few meters of 2 x 1 and some plastic sheet bought off ebay for £25, flies and dust proof.
You wouldn't even need to buy any plastic, just use some white bale wrap and put a light inside?

Ive noticed at home the flies are attracted to light same as most other bugs, so maybe put a bright light off to one side?

Lit 4 citronella candle buckets when i painted mine this summer

Not 100% cure but made a difference

Also in the marquee i used for painting, gave a liberal spray of fly killer the night before and that certainly slowed the things down!

Mate of mine sprays paint in the air before spraying, he says you slowly see them falling to the ground as the paint weighs them down.. lol

Considering the paint I've got is isocyanate 2k paint I'm surprised there's any in the workshop at all, but it's in the hours after painting which they get onto the paintwork, it doesn't help that the quad is kept in the same shed so people are always in and out of there anyway letting flies in.

I think for now I'm going to try fly tape and see how that goes, hopefully they'll go to those rather than my paint

ive got to paint mine soon and it will be with 2k, I think ill be doing it outside so flies are going to be on my paintwork lol.. I off road mine so it doesnt stay smooth for long so I'm not too fussed.

I find dust more of a problem than flies.
But wetting the floor before you start helps.
Provided you're doing it in an enclosed area that is.

We shall see. Put my passenger door on today, then it wouldnt open properly, but i did use a new hinge on the top... hmm
