Hi new to the forums,hope some of you guys can assist with the problems i have with my Mk11 disco TD5,first i have a flat spot when i press the accelorator pedal it hesitates for a couple of seconds before it revs up,Also the remote locking seems to have gremlins in the system as it will unlock with the key leave it a day and no response from either of the keys so i have to unlock with the key,and after doing so the remote locking works,has anyone any thoughts on these problems.

Is your Disco Manual or Auto, if manual, does it help riding the clutch and giving more revs?

The disco is manuel,the flat spot is when you are stationary and press the accelorator pedal id does not respond right away but hesitates for a coulpe of seconds.

Possible solutions (not in any order)

Fuel - Pipe is damaged, filter needs changing, ECM needs checking.
Does it seem to be running to rich or lean? might be fuel pressure problem ECM related

Air - Filter damaged/needs cleaning. Intake blocked?

Does it do little stop-start journeys? does the engine get up to temp ok?

pre-glow works ok? doesn't take too long (longer than 3-4 secs)

Thanks for your reply.Will check these possibilitties out tomorrow.I only bought the vehicle in december it was supposed to have had a full service.i have 3 months warranty with the disco,i will inform them of the faults.after i check the filters and other things.the engine gets up to temp o.k. and the glow plugs are o.k.i do not know if it had a diagnostic check as the garage i bought it of is a Vauxal dealer.Thanks again for the input.

Check wiring harness plug for the injectors this cured my TD5 Defender that was one of my problems. Also chipping & blanking the EGR helps.

checked the wiring harness seems o.k.Considering blanking of the ERG.also noticed the air filter was very dirty, will replace.Thanks for your input,Greatly appreciated.

Central locking gremlin isnt a gremlin. The handbook says that if the vehicle sits for any length of time (overnight for instance) then you may have to unlock the vehicle with the key. The book doesnt say why this is so, I just assumed it was of Land Rover's idiosynchracies.

I still set the alarm off though, because I often open the driver's door after unlocking it with the key without then pressing the unlock button on the fob to disarm the the alarm. Frightens the $%^& out of me!

I have got a similar problem, with this flat spot and this was caused by the ecu as per landrover bulletin 0022 The ecu number which causes the problem is MSB101183 and Landrover recommended replacing this unit. Check to see if your ecu is the same number as this , it is next to the battery and you release it with one screw and the number is on the side.

changed air filter,checked ECU,and all the otherthings suggested,but still the same.anyone have any other ideas.

Apart from the pause when it's at idle, does it do it at any other time? i.e when a gear is engaged/pulling out at junctions etc. I can do a 'quick' start if I slip the clutch but generally there is a slight pause when pulling away whilst the 2.5 engine tries to move the heavy body, me, the wife and 3 kids!!

If it only does it at idle, is it if you quickly jab the accelerator? if you slowly depress the peddle, building the revs, does it do it then? Still sounds like a fuel issue to me, either ECM (pressure) or pump/fue line.

It is very slugish when you pull away,unless you give it some throttle,its mainly when its idle and you jab the peddle,does not happen if you slowly depress the peddle.

It simply might be that you're expecting too much response from the engine at low revs. My last car was a petrol 3.5 V8 BMW, when I got the Disco I had to adjust my driving style, especially when pulling out at junctions!!

Saying that, it still sounds to me like the engine (when having to react quickly) is either getting too much/too little fuel or air. I have a '51 TD5 and having I been looking for a flat spot since your problem, I can almost 'create' one but it isnt there naturally.

Thanks for the reply,I have only had it a month,i pxed a freelander for it.There was no problem with the freelander,when idleing and revving up.ie no flat spot.That is why i do not think i am expecting to much of the disco.It still has 2 months warranty left.so i may take it back and see if they will sort the problem.Otherwise it is a fine machine well pleased with it.Leaves the freelander standing.Its a bit thirstier but i can live with that.Once again thanks for your input you have been most helpful.

If it's still under warranty get it back and get them to sort it!!
Sounds like a dirty or knackered Maf sensor to me my last V6 tdi did exactly the same thing.
