Hi, The oil light has started to come on when I slow down or when the engine is ideling. It goes off if I give the engine a few revs. I have checked the oil level several times and it is fine so I am assuming it is an electrical fault. I am even more useless at vechicle electrics than I am with standard mechanics so I really wouldn't have a clue what to look for. Thanks form any help in advance.

Get a pressure gauge and attach it to the block where the sender is.
Check that the wire is still on the sender and hasn't fallen off earthing out on the block somewhere

any mechanic/garage.

yu cud just fit a new sender, but if it remains the same - yu got probs. Most likely oil pump, but it cud be fooked bearings.

Can I get a bit more detail please as I am not sure what I am looking for or what it does? In fact I don't know much really!!

If you stand half way down the drivers side wing with the bonnet up you will see the fuel injection pump, slightly further back and below this is the oil filter somewhere around it you should see a single wire follow this to what looks like a large bolt head with a spade terminal on it. This is the sender. To remove it, clean the area round it with a rag and without undue force unscrew it anti-clockwise. You may find you get a slight dribble of oil from the hole it came out of.

Thank you very much Grunt, is this a serious problem? Where would I get a sender unit I looked on Craddocks but I couldn't find it?

Hi, I changed the oil pressure sender unit and the garage adjusted the idle speed and also checked the pressure and said it was fine. The light hadn't flashed for ages and the mechanic said that he could spend for ever looking for the problem and still not find it. He also said that I should be fine unless it starts to come on when the engine is reving.

It has just started to flash again and I am really looking for some advice from you guys as there seems to be an immense amount of knowledge on here so I would just like to check that the mechanic has been telling porkies.

Thanks again guys

Seems about reet but don't blame me if it blows up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why not get a pressure gauge fitted for piece of mind?

How do I fit a pressure gauge?? How do I flush it out and with what?? Sorry to sound so ignorant but I am this ignorant about this stuff. The mechanic did say that I should maybe change the oil and filter but to use a really cheap and nasty oil as it will be thicker which might help. Does that sound right to you guys?

Thanks for the help guys.

when yu buy an oil pressure gauge, ensure it comes with tubing and a T piece - its then a case of unscrewing yo oil pressure switch, screwing in the T piece, screwing the switch back in, mounting the gauge and connecting the tubing up between the gauge and T piece.
ensure it dont leak - else yu will fill ya car with oil.

Yu can buy flushing oil, its thinner than normal , to clear away the crap. Instructions are on the tin. If that dont fix the prob then its STP or WYNNES additives or a rebuild.
