I have a 1987 90 with a 200tdi in it.
I recently had a hazard issue that turned out to be the switch. I replaced that in a hurry before I had to go out. I did notice a white wire with a female spade just hanging behind the switch panel??? All seemed to work fine so left it for now.
But turns out that when I now turn hard or go over bumps, or generally bouncing around, the low fuel light intermittently flashes???

has anyone had this or knows where that white wire should go?

Its normal for the fuel light to flash as the fuel gets low and sloshes around in the tank.
When it stays on solid is the time to worry...

Best bit of cheap kit I have is a neon probe with a length of wire coming off it with a crocodile clip on the end. Cheap and useful.

White wire with no tracer colour is un-fused ignition live.
Chuck a couple of gallons of fuel in it and see if that cures it. As swisstoe says, they do flash with the movement of the fuel on older Land Rovers.
