The Disco has been struggling with the flashing cogs of death (S & M) for a few months now. I've managed to get it to limp on for a while. I have found a broken wire in the loom over the gearbox and sorted it. The computer is still telling me that the Gear position switch has a permanent and intermittent fault. So I can assume there must be more broken wires in that mass of spaghetti!
If anybody else has this problem I suggest setting fire to the vehicle and ringing the fire brigade in the morning!
That should sort it.
I am open to any suggestions before I wheel it to the scrap yard!
Mind you, it has done 200k miles of hard labour!

Before you do anything else, you need to verify and if necessary the battery condition - which often causes this kind of problem.

With a multi-meter measure across the battery terminals and establish what voltage is available. For this to be a valid test you need to ensure that EVERYTHING electrical is turned off.

Thank you guys for your response. I've done all of the relevant checks as you've suggested. I am now considering the new wiring harness. I'll give it one last chance!
The guy who works for me loves it , and does not want a new one but he may not have a choice.
