It looks like we will have the option on a well looked after Freelander 2.

I run on biofuel, which, if I pay a little more attention, will be fine in the common rail engine, but not in a DPF.

From reading, it *seems* that some FL2 have dpf filters and some don't.

How can I conclusively tell, without access to the vehical (and, in truth, being a 300tdi sort, I wouldnt really know what I was looking for anyway!)

I can get the reg etc.

As a rough guide;

160bhp TD4 were from 2006 - early 2010 (no DPF)(manual or auto)
150bhp TD4 were from late 2010 (with DPF)(manual or auto)
190bhp SD4 were from late 2010 to 2015 (with DPF)(auto only)

If you can get the VIN number then feed it into https://www.vindecoderz.com/EN/Land Rover and that should confirm.
 
Just found a photo of the reg plate on my phone. It's a 56 plate.

So am I right in thinking there is zero chance it's going to have a DPF then? I'll be happy if that's the case.

I'm surprised that the bhp dropped by 10 in 2010. Normally later builds are more powerful. Happy with that too.

I'm used to 300tdis though. I have about 3 of them. I am scared that the fl2 isn't the sort of thing you can just fix by hitting bits of it with a hammer.

relax! you will get to apply the big hammer to the rear brakes anytime you have left it stationery for longer than 48 hours!

Ughh...

I've just got the VIN number. The reg is a 56 plate, but the 8th letter of the VIN is a C

Looking that up, it says "Diesel DPF low power"

The vin checker listed above also says -

Emission Directives - EU4 + DPF [053BT]


So it looks like my earlier happiness was misplaced.

The reason we are getting the fl2 is to replace a petrol car, as I have a lake of (properly made) biofule at my disposal. It will be fine in the common rail engine but has no hope with the dpf regen cycle.

I'm wondering if I have any real option now.
