If I just press the brake and start my 2009 FL2 TD, it starts and then starts miss firing and then stops as if it is starved of fuel. But if I keep my foot on the brake and accelerator, it starts, and I take me foot of the accelerator it keeps going as normal. The car has been standing on the drive for a year. But if something is blocked then why would it start if my foot is on the accelerator and stays running when I take my foot off?

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Ok so the FL2 has been standing on the drive without being driven, in that year was it started anytime, i also presume that the fuel is a year old, which is not good, it could have the black bacterial bug you can get from diesel being old in the fuel tank.

Again i am presuming the fuel filter will be more than two years old, so my first step would be to change the fuel filter, not after market but LR one, maybe drop some bacterial bug killer in the tank, also a bottle of injector cleaner.

I'm not saying you have the diesel bug, but if you do then.
Here are the steps you can take to treat diesel bug:
  1. Drain and clean your fuel tank. ...
  2. Add a biocide to your fuel. ...
  3. Run your engine for a period of time to circulate the biocide through the fuel system. ...
  4. Replace your fuel filters. ...
  5. Monitor your fuel system for signs of further contamination.

Get some fresh fuel in it. Diesel will only remain in spec for 6 months in proper storage, and less in the vehicle.

Wow, OK, I did not know it can get a bug and has a shelf life. That is quite interesting. I will investigate that then. Thank you!
