Hello all.
I'm getting a loud cracking sound from the drivers side door. As if somethings about to fall off. Tried to lube the area and hinges but to no avail. Any advice welcome.

I'd guess there is some play in the hinges, which is allowing some movement as the body flexes.
Check to see if there's wear on the striker hoop, which if present would suggest the door has dropped.

Could be the restraint strap where it welds to car. They snap and make a terrible noise.
Have a look, can see a mark on the door frame where it looks like it is fouling.
Look at the check strap and get someone to wiggle the door back and forth.

Thanks for your replies.
Nodge68. The door doesn't seem to have dropped, the hinges seem to to be in great form for a motor 20 years old.

As it goes, it does seem to be the check strap. After much lube, its not helped.

Is there any cure??
Thanks for your advice on this all.
Cheers.
Gary.

Depends what you lubed it with. Grease will swell the neoprene and make it worse.
Best bet, if it is the check strap, is to remove, clean and apply silicone grease. I also shaved a few mm off the plastic inserts that the strap slides through, they are inside the door, to make it not so tight.

I used to get creaking from my drivers side door.

I didn't know where it was originating at the time, but every time I accelerated there was a creak. It was baffling where it came from.

Then 1 day I tried accelerating while holding the door open and no creak. Close the door, and it creaked... open, no creak. It was definitely the door.

As with all the creaks, bangs and noises miscellaneous I've had on the car - it just stopped after a while.
