You can get replacement lock nut keys. The lock number is on the key.
The lock code is actually stamped on the locking nut on mine - worth a check. Get them on ebay.

Just done my first fill. 603kms and 45.5 litres. .. 37.5 mpg. 'OK'ish.Seriously @Stuart hall the best I've got is 43 mpg. If I do not get over 37 this weekend over 2 fill ups 1,000m alpine passes with 5 on board I'll be disappointed. Obviously around town or off the tarmac it will drop but I'd be disappointed if it got anywhere close to 30.

Yep, was another great trip... and the car performed really well. It does struggle up the hills though, especially when its fully loaded with 5 adults and a boot full of gear!Hi grumpy, hope you had a great trip ?
No joy with centre caps, am sure they pinched em, especially when he made the mistake of telling me his dad had same vehicle !
Noticed I'm still losing coolant although no sign of any leak.
Maybe it's connected with my running problem?
What if head gasket had very slight leak when hot allowing coolant to enter engine ?
It's been much colder here recently and coolant loss is much less.
Few weeks back was 40 deg and only covered say 60 klms and reservoir would go from full to empty.
Now its only 20 deg and for same journey hardly drops.
Just an idea, as said can't yet find a trustworthy garage, in uk I'd just take it in and let them sort it.

lol I am a bit of a Nana driver going down hills - I do like to be well within the car's limits cos they're mainly accompanied by twisty bits. I'm therefore normally in a gear that keeps the revs up and the engine keeping the speed down.obviously you are not coasting down them hills LOL

Mine always uses coolant. Sometimes I can check the bottle and the coolant is still there - but its a surprise when that happens and not the norm. Almost always the bottle is empty. It only ever appears to drain the bottle though it never needs more than that. I always thought it was the heater matrix, but presumably that would drain more than just the bottle. As its just the bottle that gets used, maybe its the cap - there's a little crazing on the bottle, but not much. I was a bit alarmed at first, but its been like it for years without seemingly doing any harm, other than the cost of antifreeze on probably 1 in 4 top ups so running a bit weak on that.
The L series EDC is a dumb ECU, so it doesn't learn driving style. Not even the TD4s much more advanced EDC can do that, although that unit will learn engine characteristics and adjust to suit. The L series EDC doesn't do anything clever. It just puts fuel in at the correct time and at the volume needed for a particular throttle position.

Mine does that, if I hear clunks and bangs, I'm not to worried, they usually sort themselves out given time.
I was chatting to my next door neighbour the other day and we recon our cars are among the most environmentally friendly on the roads. My '99 diesel Freelander and his '98 Land Cruiser diesel. Sure they may put out slightly more toxic emissions than, the 'real world', emissions of 'modern' cars. They may also burn slightly more fuel to cover the same distance. They were though built 20 years ago and may last another 20 years - where as governments are trying to get us to swap out cars every 5 years - where's the environmental benefit in that? Where's the environmental benefit in manufacturing huge quantities of toxic batteries that need disposal of every few years? Where's the environmental benefit of burning huge quantities of coal or oil to power electric cars?Lol I hope so Grumpy, if I can get another year out of Phoebe I'll be very happy.

Looks like they eventually want all old clunkers off the road.
Some crazy law's here like can't px against a newer car and will finally cost me a fortune to scrap her.
