Hi do I need to prime the oil pump on 1.8? replaced with a brand new one. I see a screw there on pressure release I believe, can I take that off and squirt some fresh oil there?
Finishing a full engine rebuild, I am going to crank it with fuel pump disconnected and no plugs to lube it up but I am wondering how the pump moves oil since there's nothing but air there atm.

There's no need to prime the pump. However I pull the fuel pump relay so the engine doesn't fire until there's oil pressure. Once the oil pressure light has gone out on cranking, you know there's oil in the system, so the engine can be allowed to start without damage to the bearings.

Hmm for how long should I crank without fuel pump relay? Going 5 minutes now and oil light is still on...

It depends on how restrictive the oil filter is, as that needs to be purged of air before oil pressure can build.

I've had to crank an engine over without any plugs in it before now, so the engine spins fast enough to get it to pull the oil through.
5 Minutes sounds a bit long, but it's not going to cause any damage while the speed is low and the engine is off load.
